The Bible speaks of plagues of insects. These insects leave nothing behind, people starve. God sends these plagues when he thinks punishment for sins is due. He must have thought, "Oregon has a plague of homers. I'll send it a plague on grasshoppers. I hope you enjoy yourself, Oregon."

What's the point of that? She'll still have over ¾ sq. mile of the things! At 2” long and ⅓ as wide as they are long, that's ⅔ sq. inch per insect and, according to my calculator, 3,098,684,160 insects remaining. From her description "the ground is just crawling."

Perhaps someone else can guess how much 3 billion gnawing insects can eat in a day. I think my calculator would run out of numbers.

Grasshoppers, or pubic lice? Either wouldn't surprize me.

I think it's grasshoppers, Mormon crickets or locusts. There seems to be some confusion but they all look much the same. I've never seen a two inch louse but some feather lice can get quite large, especially compared to the size of a bird. It would be like humans having small crayfish.
