All the ladies in Freehold were atwitter last Sunday when we had a celebrity sighting in West Des Moines at church time.Yes, it was none other than that lady-killer and well-known rebuker for Jesus, Pastor Fred Phelps! here's the secular media version of events:
While I have always found Brother Phelps to be a bit too liebral for my tastes, I have to acknowledge that he does draw the ladies to the Lord. Keep up the good work, Pastor Phelps! Your fans are praying for you!
Fags Rebuked in Des Moines
West Des Moines, Ia. — Protests outside six West Des Moines churches Sunday by members of the Topeka, Kan., based Westboro Baptist Church failed to disrupt worship services or provoke confrontations.
At the end of the day, peaceful counter demonstrators outnumbered the 10 Westboro members who spent the morning traveling from church to church to display signs stating “God Hates Fags” and “Your Pastor is a Whore.”
Strategically positioned police stood watch over a tense calm on the picket lines and outside the targeted churches. In advance of Sunday’s protest, pastors had encouraged their congregations to ignore hurtful chanting and the jarring messages of protesters’ signs.
The targeted churches rerouted traffic, encouraged members to attend Saturday services and set up barriers to block the view of the protests from main entrances.
“We told our people to avoid and ignore the demonstrations,” said John Glad, senior associate pastor of Valley Church, 4343 Fuller Road, West Des Moines.
According to Westboro Baptist Church spokeswoman Shirley Phelps-Roper, the West Des Moines churches were chosen because “they all have erred from the truth with respect to the sins of America and all carry the big lie that God loves everyone, thus enabling sin.”
The Westboro church’s picket schedule was more specific:
Two demonstrators attacked the protesters who picketed Valley High School’s fall play Saturday night. Andrew James Volker, 26, of West Des Moines was arrested after he tackled one of the 16 members of the Westboro Baptist Church who held signs and sang songs that denounced homosexuality as they protested from 6 to 7 p.m. near Valley High. No one was injured, as the attackers were limp-wristed fags.

The Westboro church’s picket schedule was more specific:
- Valley Church was picketed because it is a “whorehouse mega church,” that “preaches lies of peace and safety when there is none.”
- St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 1020 24th St., West Des Moines, was targeted because the congregation has a woman pastor and the denomination has a gay bishop.
- Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway, West Des Moines, is a “mega dog kennel. These fools have nothing to hope for, no faith, because they don’t serve God.”
- St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 5300 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines, is “home of the largest pedophile machine in the world. That’s enough evidence to send the entire catholic monster straight to hell.”
- Ashworth Road Baptist Church, 5300 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines, is a “false Baptist church” having taken the name of John the Baptist but not preaching his words.
- Sacred Hearth Catholic Church, 1625 Grand Ave., West Des Moines, was chosen because it is the “home of pedophiles and child molesters.”
