On the Nature of Heaven (with reference to Fish)

1 Attachment(s)
We used to have a pastor at Landover who was very keen on preaching the Word of God to “all His creatures” as per Mark:15:16, and this included dolphins and other fish. (He had his own demons and, unfortunately, lost his life near the old Bridge.)

He and his particular ministry came to mind as I was asked to read the poem “Heaven” by Rupert Brooke to a child of some sort that was begat by the loins of one of my off-spring’s offspring.

It is thus clear that God shared His Word with fish – and this is shown in the high fish content of Jesus’s Ministry – loaves and fishes, the full nets of the Disciples who were fishermen, Jonah and the Whale, Exodus 7:18, Jeremiah 16:16 ,Numbers 11:5, Luke 24:42, etc.

Obviously, we don’t want a heaven that is filled with worms and cold water, do we? So is the question “Is fishes’ heaven any different from ours?”
The answer must be “No” – that cannot be a question that a Christian asks as there cannot be two heavens, can there?

“How can that be?” I hear Catholics and atheists ask “Is there waterweed in profusion, or is there not! Answer me that!”

How ridiculous, how absurd, how lacking in Faith! Unlike them, you are a Christian. You, like me believe that Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and God the Father are one not three. You, like me, have no difficulty with Christ being 100% God and 100% man and that is entirely logical and reasonable – how could it not be so? It is not we Christians who need to explain anything – it is the disbeliever, the pagan with his stupid gods, the Catholic, the atheist, etc.

However, in support of our belief, we can say that my idea of heaven is not the same as, for example, a poor person in Africa’s. He may wish an infinite supply of bananas, cheap alcohol, and loose women, I would require the finest raiment and food, a house without the plumbing problems I have, and a woman who does not go on, and on, and on.

Are you going to the same heaven as me? Of course. Will the Darkie get the heaven he wants? That heaven has been promised.

You see where this is leading? We all get the heaven we want – even if we have not ironed out every detail – God will know what suits us. Even if we do not want ever, in all eternity, to be visited by any Kardashian, whereas someone else might. Yet there is only one heaven. It is all these things. It is and it is not.

So, will the fish get a watery heaven or not? Well… nowhere in the Bible does Jesus say that they won’t. And we note from The Book of Revelations of John the Divine that there are horses in heaven – Jesus comes back to Earth on one. There is not much ‘special’ about horses, is there?

There is room to believe that fish will have a watery heaven, but that we will be unaware of them, as I will be unaware of any Kardashian or Darkie (except perhaps “Boy” my faithful retainer) and probably horses, which I distrust.

Christ was once asked, in Luke:20 about what it was like in Heaven:
28 Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30 And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
32 Last of all the woman died also.
33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

People on earth complain that their husband/wife of 50 years is dead and when they get to heaven, they still won’t have a husband/wife. But this is just like fish – they will have the heaven they think they are having and their husband/wife, who may have been glad to be rid of them, will have the heaven that they think they are having.

The essential message is that there is one heaven.

Research on this matter is on-going and the prohibition on contacting the dead – while understandable - is not a help. All comments are welcome.

I, of course, homeschool my five boys. I appreciate these lessons! The boys take interest in them and I learn something new myself! Bless you!

One thing that will engage them in their lessons is a research project. It not only helps them appreciate subject matter but provides a sound basis for presenting The Truth when confronted with ravings from evolutionists, which brings me to VERMIN.
vermin?
Vermin are described according to the effect they have. Butterflies are not usually considered vermin for example whereas bedbugs, although still insects, are always vermin. Even attractive insects [e.g..RIGHT] become vermin if they swarm and start biting! The boys should enjoy checking out details like that and it would be a help for us here, too. Which fish are vermin? Are alligators vermin? Rats? Gerbils? From the O.P. it's clear that dread is mediated with equine reinforcement at least sometimes, they would not be vermin in that case but a swarm of miniature horses eating out a carrot farm? Just a couple of suggestions, I've been thinking about a list of vermin as a handy "look up" for reference and this would be a good start.
Genesis 9:1-2 [God speaking (to Noah)] Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea

We discussed that today, and my 2nd oldest boy shouted, "DEMOCRATS!" So it was a very good lesson.:brimley:

Not being Chinese I don't eat dolphin but am partial to other fish and although I rarely buy it, it's something I always enjoy in restaurants. Did you know that dolphins eat lots of fish? Cod for example are almost wiped out! And like land weeds which crowd out young fruit trees, depriving us of fruit, these weeds of the sea unless controlled deprive us of another important food. Dolphins are certainly vermin and very unlikely to get into any sort of Heaven. Jesus said He would make us fishers of men just think what dolphins (and sharks and orcas and even larger fish) could do if left to go wild! Mice are bad enough; imagine a plague of dolphins!!

Sister Mitza, Thanks for the info regarding dolphins. I will certainly make a point of culling a few hundred the next time I go fishing.

Re: On the Nature of Heaven (with reference to Fish)

As verse 8 of the poem reminded us, many irresistible fancies of unwanted chondrichthian or, in the case of dolphins, osteichthyan foes do not die. Now I'm not suggesting that all Democrats have worms and it's even possible that one could give up the socialism I suppose, provided they'd not blasphemed against The Holy Ghost.

The Bible is clear on this. After recording Jesus conversation with Moses and Elijah so that we'd know he was telling The Truth..after all, would Moses provide evidence of God's incarnation to a liar? of course not..Mark went on to record what Jesus told us about worms; not in a dietary context but in the sense of inextinguishable flames:

Mark 9:47-49 If thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

Hagfish and lampreys are described as attacking other fish. Here we see a dolphin, Tursiops truncatus, having trouble with a hagfish while here is a lamprey getting stuck into a beluga, Delphinapterus leucas, both of which quite honestly I'd have thought would be cleaned up by now. God cares for His creation and doesn't want us to suffer such as from lack of food, on which topic Jesus was very much identified with fish. The food species, obviously, not the vermin who'd drive them into extinction.

Perhaps either lampreys or hagfish may be a suitable bait for you? Some sort of entanglement, wire maybe or whatever fishing line you use (or nets) with a few bushels of lampreys emptied overboard would provide the protection God has promised and He didn't give hagfish their gurgitation of cloying slime or lampreys their grinding buzzsaw teeth for no reason. In the examples, nature demonstrated their roles in controlling the menace species.
