Can Women Lead Prayers at City Council Meetings? No.
 

I count among my best Mayoral friends Eddie Hogue, Mayor of Wylie, Texas. At national Mayor's meetings he and I sneak away from the official meetings to have coffee and chuckle about the secular Mayors who try to run their cities without the Bible.

Mayor Eddie made headlines this week when he issued a ruling that women cannot lead prayers before meetings of the Wylie City Council. Eddie first correctly quoted 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 which tells us "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak."

Eddie went on the discuss the almost more powerful 1 Timothy 2:11-12. " Let the women learn in silence..nor to usurp authority over the man."

That Mayor Eddie made headlines quoting this scripture will help not only Wylie but the entire United States. People need to know what the Bible says about women praying at public meetings so these mistakes will not be made. Why have prayers at all before city council meetings if the city violates the Christian faith before the prayer even begins by inviting a woman to pray?
