Bible Events You Wish You Had Witnessed?

Every single page of my KJV1611 Holy Bible gives me strength, every day. But sometimes, I just wish I had been there for God's demonstration of His loving Word. We all need a "pick me up" moment from time to time in our walk with Jesus.

It's difficult for any of us to nail down any one of thousands of moral Biblical lessons as most influential. But I will lead the study. Please contribute what gets you out of bed in the morning to witness for Jesus Christ.

For me, nothing is more inspiring than the historical account of Abraham and Isaac.

Genesis 22:1-22 "And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.

Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me."

For Abraham to have such trust in God that he would bind his son on the altar. To tell his son what he wanted to hear, as he served God. The knife at the throat, ready to slay his only son. Praise God for the devotion and trust!

And Isaac surely learned his own lesson in this example of the importance of trusting in God. He could only have passed this to his family, as he did.

Sometimes when I have trouble sleeping, this account is all I have to recall in order to saw logs with Jesus on my mind.

What helps you, my brethren?

In Christ

Praise Jesus there are so many to choose from. If I had to choose just one, it would be the she-bears. :innocent:

I think The Rebellion of Korah would have been a great moment, though I agree with you Pastor, there are so many it's hard to play favorites. But nothing says "Awesome Power of The Divine" like infecting 14,700 of Moses' unruly followers with plague for insolent backsass.

Numbers 16:41-50

41 But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of the Lord. 42 And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared.
43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.
44 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
45 Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.
47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.
48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
49 Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.
50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.

What about when Jesus made himself a whip and used it to attack the money changers in the temple? Oh, the looks they must have had on their faces!

This:
ACTS 1
9
And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

I would have loved to be there for the events described in 1 Kings 18:1-46.

1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying , Go , shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth. 2 And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria. 3 And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly: 4 For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.) 5 And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive , that we lose not all the beasts. 6 So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself. 7 And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said , Art thou that my lord Elijah? 8 And he answered him, I am: go , tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here. 9 And he said , What have I sinned , that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me? 10 As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said , He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not. 11 And now thou sayest , Go , tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here. 12 And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth. 13 Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORD'S prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water? 14 And now thou sayest , Go , tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here: and he shall slay me. 15 And Elijah said , As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand , I will surely shew myself unto him to day. 16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah. 17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? 18 And he answered , I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim. 19 Now therefore send , and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table. 20 So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel. 21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said , How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. 22 Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men. 23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces , and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: 24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said , It is well spoken. 25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under. 26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying , O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered . And they leaped upon the altar which was made . 27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said , Cry aloud : for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked . 28 And they cried aloud , and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them. 29 And it came to pass, when midday was past , and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer , nor any that regarded. 30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down . 31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying , Israel shall be thy name: 32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed. 33 And he put the wood in order , and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said , Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood. 34 And he said , Do it the second time . And they did it the second time . And he said , Do it the third time . And they did it the third time . 35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water. 36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near , and said , LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. 37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. 38 Then the fire of the LORD fell , and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said , The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God. 40 And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape . And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there. 41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up , eat and drink ; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. 42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink . And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, 43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up , and looked , and said , There is nothing. And he said , Go again seven times. 44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said , Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said , Go up , say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down , that the rain stop thee not. 45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode , and went to Jezreel. 46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

I would particularly enjoy watching Job scrape the cankers from his flesh with a heated potsherd.

Of course, everyone would want to be there for 'The Creation', what a magical six days it must of been.
My next choce would be to see Jesus die on the cross for my sins. I'd like to of thanked Him.
Last would be what else, 'The Last Supper'. Though I cannot imagine it could be a whole lot better than a typical dinner at the Landover Mens Club with all the LBC Pastors.
I love being a Christian!:yahoo:

Re: Bible Events You Wish You Had Witnessed?

I’m torn. On the one hand, I would liked to have been there with Jesus in the Wilderness because there was no one else there and many godless abominations have asked me “Well, how do you know all that happened if there was no one else around?” However, I think there is a mystery in the true story of The Temptation of Christ, so, perhaps I’ll take a pass on that.

This leaves me with the true story of Judah and Tamar.

You will recall that Judah promised his son as a husband to Tamar but then welched on the deal and Tamar gets to know that Judah is on his way to shear sheep.

She dresses as a harlot, and, as he is coming up the road, she spreads her legs a little and starts a low sort of moaning noise. As Judah gets even nearer, she starts playing with herself and lets her robe fall off her shoulder to show a bit of nipple. By the time Judah is within 5 yards of her she is stuffing a huge dildo up it and shouting out: “Christ! I need a man up me! Etc.”

Judah sees all this and gets glimpses of her rug and starts stripping off from the waist down and, with balls now nearly black with pressure, he mutters, “How much for a good time?”

Tamar sort of slows down with the dildo and then licking her fingers and distracted by the size of Judah’s member, says, “What you got … big boy?”

Judah hasn’t been to the ATM, so he offers a goat kid (The standard unit of currency in Israel.) However, Tamar sees that he’s not actually got a kid, and says, “No deal – goats or GTFO.” Then she considers his huge ramrod and adds, “I’ll take your ring, bracelets and staff as security. Get in there quick, I’m wetter than a beaver’s pocket and gagging for it.”

So Judah starts the job. First he pulls her on like a well-fitting shoe and pounds away for about half an hour until she can hardly breathe, then he throws her over and takes her from the rear until all she can say is "Uuuuurrrr", then he turns her round and stands up with her speared on his mighty manhood. He then lies back and makes her do the work on top. Just when she thinks that she is going to die of orgasms, he splashes his seed inside her like a fire-hose. She relaxes completely murmuring “OMG…OMG… Can you do that again?” But Judah is off to shear some sheep. He doesn’t come back and she doesn’t get her goat.

It turns out later that Tamar has been impregnated by Judah and is found in this state by the local morality committee. They hastily convene a court and sentence her to be burnt as a harlot. Fortunately, it turns out that Judah is the chairman of the committee and she gets off the hook by showing Judah’s ring, bracelets and staff. Everyone has a good laugh, no one gets burned and Tamar and her child to be are sent off to make their own way in the world.

You can read all about it in Ge:38:13 – 26.

Anyway, If I had been there, after Judah had gone, I would have taken the ring, bracelets and staff off her and saved all that embarrassment. We can’t have harlots walking the streets, can we?

Re: Bible Events You Wish You Had Witnessed?

King David is one of my all-time favorite heroes of history. I love to read how he was anointed to be king (1 Samuel 16:13), how the LORD protected him against a 9 foot giant (1 Samuel 17:50-51), and loved him enough to punish him for adultery by snuffing out the life of his sweet little babe (2 Samuel 12:14). But if I could witness any event, it would be the romantic exchange between David and Saul when David not only provides the desired bride-price, but doubles it. I confess, I'm such a romantic at heart, and nothing says "I love you" like a pile of bloody, slimy foreskins (1 Samuel 18:25-27).

I wish I could have been there when the 12-year-old Jesus astonished the teachers in the temple with His wisdom (Lk 2:42-51). The Bible only tells us that He said some amazing things for a boy His age; it doesn't tell us what He said.

Maybe we can't go back in time, but I think most of us alive today will get to witness Bible events. The Lord's return draws ever nearer. Revelation will unfold before our very eyes. I can't wait!

I always loved the historic tale regarding the Tower of Babel and would love to have witnessed first hand it's destruction, Gen 11:1-9

The looks on the sinners faces when it seemed as if they were speakng gibberish to each other would have been priceless.

Also God in his infinite wisdom decided that with the one language, all genetic traits were originally shared among humankind, but once the break-up occurred, ethnic traits began to be expressed, quickly leading to today's races. Separating God's chosen people, True white Christian's from lesser races is also historical proof that Jesus is white.

Me too, Liam! But if you ever leave the Catlick hellhole where you live to visit the Catlick den of iniquity where I live, I recommend a visit to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. What with the hairy Eyetalians gabbling their nonsense, the Nipponese and Chink tourists gibbering away and the Scandiwegians going urble-burble, it's a very similar experience.

I was there in 2010 for that very reason, just to see what it may have looked like. Thank the lord it was only a stop over while on a fact finding mission along the western Italian seaboard. I witnessed too the destruction of Pompeii and this got me thinking about what it would've been like at the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Pompeii too was an evil city. Gen 19: 1-29
