How do you cook these?

There's three of them in the eucalyptus tree behind my house.

Right now they're about as big as my hand. Do they get bigger? Of course, bigger would be better (for cooking purposes), but I also don't want them to start reproducing (?) So I don't want to wait for them to get TOO big.

Well, it's awfully hot to roast them, in my opinion. Do you have a smoker? Perhaps smoked...whatever they are, would be tasty! Mmm, with some homemade bbq sauce, Boston baked beans, corn on the cob!

Mmmmm! Smoked DOES sound like a good solution. Since we don't know exactly what the meat will taste like, that might give them some flavor, if they're mild.

I meant to say they're big enough to FIT in my hand....not that they're as big as my hand. They seem very friendly. But of course I don't want them tearing up the garden.

If they don't grow, they might make good appetizers ?

Oooh! Imagine them marinading for a day! What tasty appetizers they would make!

Wait.....I'm getting an idea!

You know how finicky some kids can be about what they eat? WHO could resist one of these, skinned and arranged on a crustless piece of toast, with a little cherry tomato stuck in its mouth??

Brilliant! Or, you could also do this with a long strip of pimento!

Oh that sounds absolutely fantastic!

Do you have plans for an after dinner treat for the children? I saw these and thought of you immediately!

Golly! That's just about the most fantastic thing I've ever seen!

Thanks for sharing!

I enjoyed making this Blood of the Lamb cake for my neighbor's daughter. You can use raspberry jam for the spinal cord, etc.

You could just burn the tree down.

Sister, could I get your recipe (and method)?

I'd love to pass it along to Widow Helen, so she can make one of these for next Easter! (Heck, for Christmas too!)

Why of course!

You bake your cake in a lamb mold, which comes in 2 pieces. (You could use a red velvet cake recipe if you want it to look like it's all flesh, but I like a lemony pound-style cake, so the simulated bleeding shows up better.)

This is the right type of mold. There are many online.
.

I ice the two halves together with a buttercream frosting, then "inject" it with either strawberry, raspberry or cherry jam at strategic areas around the lamb's neck and body. Then I frost it all with a traditional vanilla seven-minute boiled frosting and finish with decorative jelly beans. The little darling is then nestled on a bed of candy grass, ready for the blessed slaughter.

Of course the most effective first cut is decapitation, then move along the body creating slices.

Enjoy!

Thank you, Sister! Widow Helen will be so excited.

I'll buy her the mold as a present, and ask her to try it out this weekend! Oh, I can't wait to lop off that lamb's head at this Sunday's church pot luck dinner!

Miss Cookie, when I have varmits like you have pictured, I cook them by simply tossing them in a big pot of boiling water (full of vegetables and potatos). You have to be quick as they will try to climb out. You have to keep the lid on tight until the screaming stops.

Re: How do you cook these?

You parboil them, fur and all? Or do the bristles fall off?

I like the idea of the time-saving aspect, but...?

(This is why we don't let menfolk cook to often)

(NOT a criticism!)

The bad parts float on the surface. I have one of the boys scoop it off. Boiling cooks them nice and evenly. Also, there is no chance of them suddenly 'coming to' and jumping off the fire with their fur ablaze. I lost a good tent that way.

Re: How do you cook these?

Okay, I'll file that technique away for when they're fattened up!

Right now they're eating out of my hand (dry dog food) and they like to nestle up in an old cashmere sweater I left by the back door. So cute! And their little paws are so soft! I'm going to suspend a basket over the sweater so they get used to sleeping with that overhead, then lower it a little each day.

Of course, you can never judge by a cute appearances alone. Who knows what the heck these things are??

Consider John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

I ask, What "righteous" things have these beings done? Well, so far (and this is just in a week's time) they've trespassed, and ate stolen fruit (off my strawberry bush). They could be dumped here by illegal aliens for all I know, from Marakesh (?) or somewheres exotic. For all I know they're stuffed full of packets of black-tar heroin! (Will check before cooking)

You have to harden your heart to appearances. Walking the straight and narrow isn't easy.

Re: How do you cook these?

Miss Cookie, please do not let your pie cool on the window sill with these creatures about. I'd by terribly upset if I were to find out one of these rascals jumped up and buried its face in your pie and stole your fruits. I am already concerned they have been in your bush, messing with your berries.
