Day 246. Ezekiel 13-15

Ezekiel 13-15

Ezekiel 13

God talks to Zeke.

2 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;

God is angry about false prophets. These were basically people who are like modern feel-good preachers.

In other news, I was reading an article today about the recent "discovery" of Noah's Ark. A line in the article seems to fit well with this section of Ezekiel.

From the Article "Doubt cast on Noah's ark found in Turkey" from the Christian Science Monitor (not that they are very christian).

Quote:

The finding could divide Christians themselves, he adds, and provide fodder for evangelicals who believe that God flooded the entire world and, except Noah's family, killed off all humans because of their evilness. “To recognize that God judges sin and that God will judge their sin is something [some Christians] would just as soon not believe in.”
The direct quote is from Dr. John D. Morris, president for the Dallas' Institute for Creation Research.

"To recognize that God judges sin and that God will judge their sin is something [some Christians] would just as soon not believe in."

That's a powerful quote. It definitely fits well with today's bible reading from Ezekiel.

6 They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.

These are people preaching that God forgives, and that good times are coming, when instead the wrath of the LORD is on it's way. They want forgiveness, but they gonna get much less than that.

8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD.

How many preachers today is God against?

10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:

God promises to tear down the wall, and all the daubers.

17 Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them,

18 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you?

Pillows to all armholes? Is God talking about the snuggie? No, this is a condemnation of women who have fake tits. This is a prohibition against breast implants.

19 And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?

These women, made their fake tits, for a little bit of bread. Just like modern strippers who get fake boobs for bigger tips.

Ezekiel 14

Some elders of Israel went to see Ezekiel. Remember, Ezekiel was a member of the exiles in Judah.

4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

God promises to repay them for their idols.

8 And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

The God of Israel is the only one who's existence is proven in the loss of His people instead of in their wins.

14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.

God says that if Noah, Daniel, and Job were around, they would be the only three who would survive. He'd kill the rest. He'd kill their sons and daughters, and just leave them.

16 Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.

Which is kind of an odd statement, since God once allowed Noah to spare his kids during the flood. Remember, he killed Job's kids for a test.

I find it weird that there's a Daniel reference. He hasn't even been brought up yet in the bible.

Daniel was around 606 BC. Ezekiel is traditionally ascribed to the 500's. So he would have known about them.

21 For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

God promises four judgments: the sword, famine, beasts, and pestilence.

22 Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

Since those four aren't around, God promises to leave a couple of people behind.

Ezekiel 15

2 Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?

God compares the people to a vine (weed). Think of the people as kudzu.

3 Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?

Kudzu is considered the vine that ate the south.

Currently people are making all kinds of things from kudzu, you might as well, it's everywhere.

4 Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?

This vine must not be kudzu, since you can do all kinds of things with kudzu.

7 And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.

8 And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord GOD.

God will kill them like a crappy vine.

So what have we learned today?

1. God hates a wall that is made with untempered morter.

2. The people who are listed as righteous enough to save themselves are Job, Noah, and Daniel.

3. God hates kudzu.
