Best Crucifixion Artwork: Post Your Favorites Here!

Glory to Jesus!

The magnificent Easter is again at hand. The pivotal moment of that historic and thoroughly proven event - Crucifixion - has been one of the favorite subjects of great painters, sculptors and movie-makers for millennia. There must be millions of high-quality artwork depicting this glorious moment out there, so the average True Christian™ can have difficulties when he chooses the most fitting Easter decorations for this year. To help our Brethren and Sisters in this task, I post here my favorite crucifixion scene and the others in our fellowship can do the same.

Glory! Praise God!

:praise:

I chose my favorite based on both artistic quality and Spiritual content. A good depiction of Crucifixion includes the most significant emotions that Jesus Christ our Lord must have felt during this initially quite unpleasant event. At first, Jesus was slightly skeptical:

Matthew 26:42
He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

Eventually, He (He was and IS God for God's sake; John 10:30; so He must have known that it is only temporary) resigned and received the blessing of Him as God and the nails pierced His unblemished skin! This apparently caught Jesus by surprise. The pain must have been relatively severe, as He cried out:

Matthew 27:46
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

But this moment of insecurity did not last: As we know, He raised Himself from Death and resides at the moment in Heaven waiting for us True Christians™ to join Him (1 Thessalonians 4:17). A good piece of art can present all this - and more - in one striking image. That painting can be seen below!

https://images.gawker.com/18k3j5epgkkmmjpg/original.jpg

Song of Solomon 5:14
His hands are as gold rings set with the beryl: his belly is as bright ivory overlaid with sapphires.

The slightly swollen eyelids remind us of the unpleasantness of the situation. However, Jesus's face is calm and manly. He is in control. He knows He'll be resurrected by Himself in a few days. The acute pain of penetration is over. Now it's just some boring hours until He can take a two-day vacation (the first and last one He ever had, it breaks my heart to think about this, how He toils for our Salvation and how few actually listen to Him, it must be worse than the Cross:( Matthew 7:14) followed by the miracle of Easter. Jesus is no wussy. He's got wiry, strong musculature, His beautiful belly shows His strength. He can take sinners and Satan any minute, even when hanging on the Cross. The regular people by the Cross are small and insignificant. They may feel sorrow now but Jesus knows it does not matter. Salvation matters. Jesus matters. What a beautiful piece of art!

I know, it could be from Grease. The painter must have been of the Grease Orthodox cult. However, even if the painter fails to understand Jesus and ends up in Hell (Daniel 3:11), the picture can provide us hope and consolation in the midst of the sodomite swarm. And the text is written in American, exactly as Jesus meant it to be!

:praise:

Yours in Christ,

Elmer :bye:

The defintition of the abdominal muscles is piece of early Christian perfection. However I am disappointed to see that the image is propaganda for antitriclavianism (four nails indeed!!! how inaccurate!) and, as such I can only award it 4/10 marks.

I rather like this the original of which hangs in my library - It has a simplicity to it:

What a wonderful idea, Brother Elmer! I love art myself, and speaking of strong abdominal musculature, here's a lovely picture from Georgia (the country, not the state), from many centuries ago:

https://keyassets-p2.timeincuk.net/w...-resized-2.jpg

Note that His kneecaps are very muscular, as well. I think it's because of all the time He spent on His knees in prayer. My knees don't look like that, but I still spend as many hours on my knees as I can. Anyway, I like the symbolism of our LORD being hung no more than about eighteen inches from the ground. To me, this speaks of His abilities to jump right off that Crucifix if He had wanted to, but He didn't. Similarly, He could have created a state of reality in which mankind could have been spared the consequence of Adam's sin, but He didn't. He could have created a state of reality that didn't include eternal suffering, or the need to believe an inherently unbelievable biography in order to avoid eternal suffering, but He didn't. He could have created a world without sin, just like He has planned for after Jesus' Triumphant Second Coming, but He didn't. So many things Jesus could have done rather than suffer a few hours on a cross in the hot sun, rather than sacrifice His immortal life for a few days, but He didn't. Because He wanted to show us His Love for us.

But more interesting is the unidentified flying objects in the corner. I don't know why more artists don't include them. I think there's something the government is trying to hide from us. Personally, I think the pharmaceutical companies are behind the artistic censorship. I haven't figured out what their angle is, but I know they can't be trusted, they exist to dumb down the nation, and make us pay for it. I for one will not be a willing dupe for Big Pharma.

Dear Sister,

An uplifting image. As for the wondrous manifestations levitating in the sky, Creation Science can answer you. They seem to be medusae (not the mythological Creatures from Grease but of the Created Medusa kind [Cnidaria baramin]. They have been known for Creation Scientists only for a few years and must have been totally alien to ancient Georgians (county, not state). Hence, a new proof of God's existence, as the artist couldn't have conjured up these organisms without supernatural intervention by Jesus!

Of course, they could also be genetically altered cherubim.

Ezekiel 10:1
Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.

I must say that I really enjoyed your example of ancient art. Here's an even older one before the reproduction of colors was invented, so it is in black and white. Still, the artist of this era could reproduce faithfully the curves and masculine landscape of Christ's perfect and still youthful body!

I prefer depictions of our Savior as He truly appeared.

Ok two things...
1) If the image doesn't show, I'm sorry... I've been having troubles with my computer lately so... sorry

2) I found one I thought you guys would enjoy. A silhouette of Jesus on the cross with a sunset... I thought it looked really pretty so I wanted to share.

Dear Miss Cult,

Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea of what you are talking about. Care to elaborate? I'm looking forward to seeing the image you referred to as long as it depicts Jesus Christ in His magnificence as the God He is.

John 10:30
I and my Father are one.

Meanwhile, here's another of my favorites. It does not show Jesus on the Cross per se but shows the power Jesus has over the Cross and the World. The artist has represented Christ as a Carpenter.

Mark 6:3
Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

This is most fitting, as Jesus as God was the designer of the Crucifixion Incident Himself. He was there from before the Beginning (John 1:2) and planned the History of the World with Himself as His Father, God. The plane on the wood Jesus is polishing is like His Spiritual design tool that determined the outcome of Creation, saw the Fall (Genesis 3:6) beforehand and carved out the intricacies of the History of Israel until it was time for Him to intervene on the Cross.

Such magnificence.

This image also proves the the pigmentation of Jesus' unblemished shin was of the Caucasian kind.

I like this portrait literally showing how Jesus breaks the chains of death!
