Biblical Tips That Guarantee A Godly Marriage

Importance of Being Virgin

Sex before marriage is simply immoral (1 Corinthians 7:2). There are numerous Scriptures that declare sex before marriage to be a sin (Acts 15:20; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 6:13, 18; 10:8; 2 Corinthians 12:21; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Jude 7). The Bible promotes complete abstinence before marriage, and so to this end, it is wise to Just Say No to French kissing, hugging, or even hand-holding (a known gateway sexual behavior). This is not only for practical reasons like avoiding STD's, pregnancy, the emotional pain of breaking-up, but for spiritual reasons: Life reveals God's character, and this is no more clear than in the marriage bed:

When the virgin is pierced, she is anatomically, biochemically, psychologically, and spiritually conformed to her husband. In this wonderful event, the virgin's pain is symbolic of Christ's pain of atonement, and she releases her blood sacrifice of innocence. This is a woman the man can call his own. The blood and water released from the virgin seal the covenant of marriage, making marriage a perfect analogy of the Godhead.

Always Say "Yes, Sir"

If Jesus came into your home today, would you do anything less than worship Him completely, wash His feet with tears of gratitude (Luke 7:38), and treat Him like the King of Kings He is? If Christ is the head of the man, and man is the head of the woman (1 Corinthians 11:3), why do we think it's appropriate to treat our husbands with any less respect? At the very least, we can treat him with honor and respect by answering his every request with a cheerful, grateful, "Yes, sir."

You see, obedience is the essential characteristic of the True Christian™. Jesus Himself was “obedient unto death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:8). For Christians, the act of taking up our cross and following Him (Matthew 16:27) means obedience. The Bible makes it clear that we show our love for Jesus by obeying Him in all things: “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). The best way in which we can show our obedience to God, is to show obedience to His Ambassador of the Home (2 Corinthians 5:20). Obedience is commanded by God, not only because it is the best for us, but because it glorifies Him, and God deserves nothing less!

Keep In Mind His Weakness - Every Man's Battle.

Let's be honest: Married men need sex, and so wives who aren't providing enough need to step up. Sex is a physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational need men have. You cannot love him as a husband but reject him sexually. If you do, you put him in the position of taking care of this need without you. It's never okay to blame the victim (Luke 13:1-5).

Some women may find themselves a bit uncomfortable in this new role, but we have a perfect resource upon which we can draw - Jesus! He loves us, and He loves our husbands. He wants us to be happy, and that includes in the marriage bed. Invite Jesus to be a part of your marriage. Invite Him in the marriage bed. Pray for guidance (Psalm 32:8), pray for peace of mind (Philippians 4:6). I personally wake up each day, look in the mirror and ask Jesus to tell me what is beautiful about me so I can go forth to perform this special wifely duty with confidence.

Remain chaste yourself

Don't nag your husband in the bedroom. He works hard all day to bring Glory to God. Putting undue pressure on him to perform at home just for your selfish desires is unfair, unkind, and unChristlike. Besides, you wouldn't want him thinking you have some insatiable sexual appetite like a harlot or Hollywood actress. (Galatians 5:19-21)

While you should move heaven and earth to drum up more desire for a husband who wants more sex, if you’re the spouse left wanting, you should remind yourself that God gives grace to the humble woman (James 4:6). Remind yourself that friendship, seasoned love, and shared history are often enough to maintain a marriage in which sex is no longer possible. Be grateful for whatever affection your husband decides is appropriate, such as hand holding, playful verbal interaction, or even a look across the room. A classy wife isn't a nag. Nor is she a slut.

Embrace Christian Domestic Discipline

Domestic Discipline in marriage refers to the ideal where the husband is given authority over his wife, and has the means to back up that authority, usually by spanking. The world may call it demeaning, but True Christians™ know discipline is associated with love. The LORD rebukes and disciplines those He loves (Revelation 3:19), as does the parent (Proverbs 13:24). Discipline is associated with wisdom and understanding (Proverbs 29:15; Proverbs 10:13). Finally, just like the LORD's relationship with man, so too is the husband's relationship with his wife. Discipline is associated with peace and righteousness (Hebrews 12:11)

Don't Let Yourself "Go"

A question that haunts many a woman is, Why has my husband shared his affections with another woman, how do I get past his cheating? The True Christian™ woman does not worry about the speck in her husband's eye, but instead turns towards the log in her own (Matthew 7:3-5). You want to make sure your home is so wonderful that he doesn't want to wander. Clean floors and the smell of baking bread can prevent men from looking for domestic bliss, and taking care of his personal needs in the bedroom can prevent him from feeling restless and unappreciated. Try to sympathize with how hard it is for your husband to fight Every Man's Battle when his own home isn't safe.
