Dr. Kent Hovind

We have previously assessed THE modern classic of Creation Science, Dr. Hovind's PhD Dissertation titled DISSERTATION FOR DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION that was approved with top grades at the Patriot University (at present "Patriot Bible University"). Now it is time to review his SECOND thesis
What on Earth is about to happen.. for Heaven's sake?: A Dissertation on End Times According to the Bible that was approved by the Patriot Bible University for Hovind's Doctor of Ministry degree - again with top grades. We are going to see some top class Creation Science, learn about its methodology and get a glimpse to the ambitious mind of Dr. Hovind. He is the modern day apostle Paul who can produce excellent research while being incarcerated in jail because of false accusations.

1. Unprecedented style

Unlike secular scholars, Dr. Hovind's dissertation's target audience is the True Christian™. While the first dissertation was written in a straightforward language that made it suitable even for 1st class pupils, the second one is a bit more technical and I cannot recommend it for children under 10 years of age (girls should be at least 12). However, the ingenious writing style of Dr. Hovind makes it feasible to read his work aloud for younger children, as Dr. Hovind clearly points out the emphasis and the important issues in his text, as we can see in the very beginning of this entertaining book (p. 2)!
Quote:

In this unusual book I will try to give the reader THE BIG PICTURE of the history of the world and explain what is about to happen, based on The Book that has given thousands of predictions and prophecies and has never been wrong even one time yet! This amazing Book is The Bible—God’s preserved Word for mankind. For centuries people have written and preached on end times. Opinions in different religions and especially within Christianity vary all over the place! After 44 years of study on the topic I've decided to add my opinion to the lo-o-o-o-o-ong list.
My wife has (alongside the KJV) read this book for my younger offspring and they have had no problem whatsoever understanding this book. Hence, stylistically, Dr. Hovind has produced probably the best dissertation in the history of Creation Science.

2. New data on pre-Fall history of the Creation

Who hasn't pondered how long Adam and his woman spent time in Eden before the Serpent seduced Eve? I know, everyone has thought about this. Dr. Hovind has the answer (p. 50).

:praise:

Quote:

Sometime after the Creation, maybe even 100 years after--- Satan fell from Heaven, and Adam and Eve sinned. I say 100 years because the only clues we have are:
(1) Everything was perfect at the end of day six (Satan had not fallen—Genesis 1:31);
(2) Adam was 130 years old when Seth was born (Genesis 5:3);
(3) Cain and Abel were born before that, but no dates are given;
(4) Adam had sinned and been kicked out of the Garden before he and Eve had any children ...so 100 years of paradise in the Garden before they sinned seems about right to me.
:praise:

This also shows how to use the methodology of Creation Science. It is crucial to trust one's spiritual instincts and prayer and rely on the answers that FEEL right. Dr. Hovind is the world-leading expert on this method and I've really learned a lot on the applications of Creation Science through this great endeavor of his.

3. The Big Picture

Now we get to the main part of the Dissertation. Dr. Hovind attempts to paint a canvas of world history not only concerning the past but also concerning the FUTURE. His source material is first-class, as it consists of the Bible (supplemented with prayer and his own rational mind). The study question and his motivations for the project are as follows (p. 112):

Quote:

So-o-o-o-o, at the risk of making some people angry with me (that happens a LOT in my line of work!!) here is what my lo-o-o-o-ong study of God's Word has led me to conclude covering “What on Earth is About to Happen for Heaven's Sake?” Everyone agrees that world events are FRIGHTENING! There are wars, famines, plagues, wild weather, diseases, earthquakes, and financial woes everywhere! The world is in a MESS! Everyone seems to be watching, waiting and praying for someone-ANYONE to come and FIX THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS and “take over the world!”
Amen! In addition, Dr. Hovind has his heart in the right place. He expresses in his precise and yet compassionate manner the sentiments we all have, he reveals why it is so important to fight homosexuality, sodomy, anal intercourse, man-to-man sexual contact and same-sex fornication (p. 62):
Quote:

It is wise to plan ahead for the needs in this world in case of disaster, but it is even wiser to plan w-a-a-a-a-a-y ahead for eternity. Keep in mind you will be dead for a l-o-o-o-o-o-o-n-g time! If you are not prepared for that, read Appendix 7!
This is all very good and Godly. The main conclusion regarding the state of the word is summarized in an eloquent manner (p. 50).
Quote:

The wages of sin is death (Romans 3:23). Once Adam and Eve sinned (Genesis 3), the sin had to be paid for with death. They tried to make an apron of fig leaves; but God rejected their works and killed an animal, probably a lamb, and made coats (not shorts, aprons, or bikinis) for each of them. God understood the importance of modesty (1 Timothy 2:9; Matthew 5:28).

4. Ambition

We still have a long way to go. In addition to the previous issues, Dr. Hovind also attempts to pinpoint the Second Coming. He actually gives us a Date for the End of Times. In addition, he assesses the order of events leading to Rapture, etc. I fully support ambitious and cutting-edge Creation Science, but in this case I'm afraid Dr. Hovind is almost over-ambitious. He uses the only reliable source available (the Bible) but he sadly neglects one important verse. I am of course referring to Mark 13:31-32.

Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

By dismissing this pivotal data, Hovind comes to a conclusion (p. 239):
Quote:

It looks like God may be using a big 7,000 year calendar for all of human history based on Psalm 90:4 and II Peter 3:8. Most folks agree our current “Gregorian” calendar is off by 6 years. King Herod died in 4 B.C. and he killed all the babies two and under (Matthew 2:16) so it seems Jesus was really born in 6 B.C. There is no year “zero” so Jesus was most likely crucified in 28 A.D. I think if we could know all the facts we would find the creation events of Genesis 1 were in about 3972 B.C. so Jesus was crucified exactly 4,000 years later. That would put the end of the 6,000 years at 2028 A.D.
My criticism is as follows:
1. Where is Mark 13:31-32. This is unfortunately hubris.
2. Dr. Hovind is over-ambitious but, in my opinion and based on my prayers, also over-optimistic regarding the fate of Earth. I do not think we have until 2028. While I do not know the exact date (Mark 13:31-32), it feels as if the End of Days would come much sooner.
In addition, Dr. Hovind is abandoning pre-Tribulation Rapture. also here, his conclusions are questionable (p. 114).
Quote:

Christians today disagree on the sequence of these events but my 44-year study has convinced me that the historic position that the church held to for 2,000 years is right! They taught that the “rapture” (the catching away of living believers when the Lord returns) happens AFTER the tribulation but BEFORE the wrath of God falls IN the Day of the Lord as shown above. The majority of believers in the world today agree. The “pre-trib” rapture idea, started by a 15 year old Scottish girl in 1830, that I held to for 39 years and that is held to by a VERY vocal minority today is WRONG, wishful thinking and will disappoint MANY causing them to “fall away..."
This is also sad, as Dr. Hovind clearly claims that some of our most cherished verses would be obscure and unreliable. I am, of course, referring to 1 Thessalonians 4:17

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

5. Almost saved?

Despite these shortcomings, Dr. Hovinds dissertation is obviously another future classic by the best Creation Scientist we have. However, his wishful thinking has led him slightly astray regarding the minutiae of timing when it comes to Jesus' Second coming. Fortunately, Dr. Hovind has the prudence to summarize his findings in a manner that can be endorsed by the Creation research Community as a whole.
Quote:

I think we have 15 years till the Lord comes. Read Proverbs 22:3-7 carefully, get out of debt (Romans 13:8) and WIN SOULS (Proverbs 11:30) and TURN PEOPLE TO RIGHTEOUSNESS (Daniel 12:3). Let's PRETEND it is true. The rapture is not till 2028 and it will get REALLY BAD between now and then JUST like Jesus said. Would BELIEVING THAT alter your behavior NOW? Would you become LESS interested in TV? Sports? Cars? Clothes? Would you PRAY MORE? Give more to spread the gospel? Read the Bible more? Witness more? Argue less? Seek God's Face more?
There you have it. It doesn't actually matter if it is 15 years (doubtful) of 15 days (much more likely). It is time to repent and follow the Path of Jesus. It is time to discard rectal pleasures and intermasculine sexual acts for prayer. Dr. Hovind IS our best, as no-one expresses his lo-o-o-o-o-ve towards mankind or Jesus as clearly.

:repent:

What do the mistakes mean for Dr. Hovind's Salvation? Unfortunately his hubris regarding the End of Times is a grievous sin (James 2:10) and unless he notices his mistakes and repents, his soul will be lost. Obviously, I've sent my review to Dr. Hovind and I'm positive he'll make the necessary revisions in the very near future. Read his book. Beware of the false teachings but embrace the conclusions. Read it aloud to your sons and daughters.

Thank you Brother Elmer. Dr Hovind is indeed, an intellectual giant compared with we mere mortals. And such a scholarly paper too. I am in awe.

Thank you Brother Professor Dr. White. I have bookmarked the online version for little Hannah to read to her younger brothers. It is unusual to see a PhD thesis so attractively and imaginatively illustrated. That certainly makes it more attractive to young children.

Brother, I'm worried about the impure thoughts that the picture of the naked people will induce in unclean minds. Perhaps you should use something like this?

(I just hate the thought of the unsaved frantically violating themselves to content found on our page :innocent:)

Thank you for your concern, Sister. I added a warning to the essay. While the image is Biblical and depicts the century that preceded the Fall, I understand now that repulsive sinners do not hesitate to engage in self-abuse when the see bare, unblemished skin.

Isaiah 47:3
Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.

I want also to add that Dr. Hovind's breathtaking oeuvre contains many useful rebuttals to atheists. I suggest that all True Christians™ learn by heart the following proof for the young age of the Earth (p. 39):

Quote:

The current population of seven billion could easily have come from eight people who got off Noah’s ark 4,400 years ago. If man had really been here four million years ago, like the evolutionists teach, why isn’t the earth stacked with people halfway to the Moon?
We can laugh heartily at atheists as they have no counter-argument to this gem by Dr. Hovind! :D

Re: Recommended Reading (reading level 2): Kent Hovind's SECOND PhD Dissertation

As a Biblical scientist, you would expect me to find fault somewhere within this dissertation. However, I am ready to admit that Dr Hovind is a surpassing mind.

See the masterful way that He opens his magnum opus with "The wages of sin is death (Romans 3:23)." a verse that actually says "Ro:3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" whereas Romans 6:23 says, "Ro:6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

There goes a genius, binding the Word of God to the Word of God... We can only stand back in amazement.

And then I came across this: "I think if we could know all the facts we would find the creation events of Genesis 1 were in about 3972 B.C. so Jesus was crucified exactly 4,000 years later. That would put the end of the 6,000 years at 2028 A.D."

Only Dr Hovind's mind could show how "if we could show ... [that it] were in about 3972BC" can so obviously translate into "exactly 4,000 years later."

Dear Lord, this is a goldmine...

Re: Recommended Reading (reading level 2): Kent Hovind's SECOND PhD Dissertation

Whereas I am certain Hillary Clinton would have no problems committing mail fraud, evading taxes and being a great danger to the community, Kent Hovind is clearly the complete opposite of that. I am convinced Jesus planned Kent Hovind's release from prison on August the 9th, 2015 to allow Kent Hovind to run for vice president besides Sarah Palin and win America back for Americans. Just one look at Kent Hovind's face and you know for certain Kent Hovind is a through and through honest and decent Christian who is showing America what following Jesus is really all about. Just thinking about how great Kent Hovind is brings tears to my eyes! If I were a woman I would want to bear Kent Hovind's children!

Verily, Brother Bathfire. I've never neglected Dr. Hovind and his remarkable visionary research but the more you study his writings, the more layers upon layers you find, like in an onion! He is a man well-experienced in persecution.

1 Corinthians 4:12
And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:

No-one knows the chagrin and sorrow of True Christians™ when we strive to save the souls of sinners. With heavy hearts we try to restrict their actions and bless them with rightful punishments, but we only receive violent outbursts as our reward. Dr. Hovind expresses this beautifully (p. 244):
Quote:

DON'T get mad at ME for any of this! I'm not DOING it! I'm just the messenger boy.
16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
Galatians 4:16
Ya DON'T shoot the poor guy who brings a telegram with bad news! He's doing his job! Me too!
Us too! We're just doing our job! We have bad news for sinners! We are just the messenger boys and females. Still the unsaved revolting trash get mad at US! :(

Indeed, you are right. Again. I tried that argument on an atheist today. The response was a look of astonishment on the face of the atheist - his jaw dropped, he stared in bewilderment, and as the truth of it struck him, he burst into a joyful smile. I think I convinced him.

Re: Recommended Reading (reading level 2): Kent Hovind's SECOND PhD Dissertation

Brother Professor Elmer, thank you for bringing this wonderful piece of scholarship to our attention. The atheists often say that the difference between religion and science is that the former operates based on faith, while the latter operates based on evidence. Dr. Hovind's second Ph.D. dissertation clearly shows that Christian scholars can masterfully combine the two, using the Biblical evidence as the basis, and then using scientific method to prove their theses. Obviously, in the process, the scientific method is somewhat stretched/bent, so that the results conform to the Biblical Truths, but that only makes it better.
