USA Today: Democratic Rep. Pedro Pierluisi, Puerto Rico's non-voting delegate to Congress, said today on CNN that Santorum has a "narrow and limiting view of what America is all about."
"English is the predominant language in the U.S. and will continue to be so, whether Puerto Rico becomes a state or not," he said. "In Puerto Rico, 90% of our parents want their children to become fluent in English. So it's a non-issue and shouldn't be factor in determining whether Puerto Rico can join the union or not."
CNN points out that the U.S. Constitution spells out how a state can be admitted, but there is no mention of a language requirement.
The Communist News Network should also point out that this "commie-stution" is a quaint, terrorist-coddling document which is obsolete now that 9-11 Changed Everything™.
Maybe 90% of Puerto Rican parents want their kids to give up cockfighting and drug-smuggling, but they are not getting the job done. Wanting to speak the superior language is not the same as actually speaking the superior language. I don't want to see intentions, I want to see results.
