Krinsleth, of course men should love their wives. That doesn't mean we shouldn't beat them. The Bible doesn't tell us not to beat those whom we love. In fact, it tells us that we should beat them. Consider Proverbs 13:24:

He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

This does not mean that a man can beat a woman for any reason. No, he must beat his wife only when she fails to submit to him or engages in other sinful behavior (such as reading or posting in the Men's Only forum, Sister handmaiden). Otherwise, the beating would not be a loving act. Beating one's wife should be a corrective measure, not an act of gratuitous violence.
