Thank you Pastor Enoe. This is one of the simplest and clearest expositions I have seen since your masterly analysis of
The Ten Commandments and their Punishments.

One thing a lot of people miss in this verse is “, and give to the poor.” That comma is more important than the Johanine Comma. It separates the previous clause/commandment and does not say: “and give it to the poor.” All the guy had to do was to throw a few Shekels to the poor – but such was his love of money that he fled and now burns in Hell.

Brother Bathfire, thank you for clarifying that point. The absence of the word
it is crucial here. Had Our Beloved Lord said "
sell whatsoever thou hast and give it to the poor", then He would have been asking the impossible, and Jesus would never do such a thing.
Because, just supposing my husband sold his boats, or horses, or whatever - then they would belong to whoever bought them from him and he would be in no position to give them to anyone, would he? As you so wisely point out, the comma makes this even clearer.
