I'm quite sure Hitler's father took the name for his son from the old king and war hero Gustaf II
Adolf (who fell fighting Wallenstein's Catholic League at Lützen, central Germany in 1632...
For some reason just about nobody in Europe has been given the name Adolf since 1945.
