Has anyone actually been there? (By "anyone" I'm referring to Boris and the Holyrood crew who quite likely never venture far from their castle.)
Weren't the highland clearances, late 18th to early 19th centuries, supposed to be getting the land back to nature? Admittedly so the Lairds could go marauding around hunting things without trampling any
peasants crofters under-hoof. (Scottish lawyers were getting rather litigious in the 1700's.) Then a lot of trees were cut down but replanted. Perhaps the varieties chosen for reforestation are disliked by the landowners; I'm sure if they can get England to pay for replacing them with Scottish trees they'll give it a shot. But apart from that, there's nothing there!
