Two words: Participant trophies.

. . . you say that everyone but the richest had their standard of living fall during the Great Depression. Seriously? The struggles a vast amount of your college students go through just to afford basic necessities is ridiculous. They have no standards because what's the point? They're just gonna have to be lowered anyway as tuition prices rise and minimum wage decreases.
My grandmother lived through the Depression. I still have ribbons that she saved because she didn't dare to throw anything away. My father had to visit a public facility to take baths and bring his own towel and soap (which was dear.)

There was a popular song at that time urging people to spur the economy by having "another cup of coffee and another piece of pie". Most millennials spend plenty on their primo coffees, and that includes the college students.

A staffer at a local assistance agency told me about people who come to them for help with their rent who would never consider saving money by giving up their cable, wi-fi and expensive phones and data plans.

Young people today may face some tough choices, but most of them don't make the choice--they want to have their cake and eat it, too. During the Great Depression, people just didn't have the choice in the first place. They toughed it out or they starved. Sometimes they took their own lives and that of their families.

I, myself, have lived at various times without central heat, any air conditioning, running water, clean hot water, flush toilets, a bathtub, and-- horror of horrors-- home internet connection. And I don't delude myself for an instant that I have suffered as much as my grandparents and parents.

Ooh, my favourite point. War! You wanna know why we don't have "our war", since according to you, the Iraq war isn't a real war. It's because we're not idiotic enough to jump headfirst into something so clearly dangerous and stupid without asking questions yet.

Actually, I think I wanna change my mind on that. I just realised, this is our war - against the racists, the misogynists, the bigots.

I remember hearing so many liberals decry Donald Trump as racist, misogynist and bigoted. But the millennials were too pre-occupied with their computer games to get out and vote against him, so now he controls your fate. And not just for four to eight years. If he gets to pack the Supreme Court with his kind of people, the next 25 to 40 years will be molded in his image. . . Wait, you did make mention of "here in Australia". In that case, Trump's election means nothing to you. Our soon-to-be Fearless Leader has never mentioned you, so I assume that he barely knows you exist. But then, you Aussies are used to that, aren't you?

We don't need guns as our weapons because after all, the pen is mightier than the sword.
You don't even know how to use pens! Or write cursive. You type everything, and roughly 30% of the time, you use abbreviations. About 20% of your communication is in emojis. The remaining 50% of your chosen "weaponry" is often misspelled and set out in the wrong verb tense.

In order to make words your weapons, you first need to be able to read with discernment. Start with the Bible. It was the first book ever printed.
