Well, not exactly. More like one of those things on a construction site – and this was South Africa where they have language problems at the best of times. I'm not even sure if the spelling's right, they have been saying "loft" as in "to rise or soar aloft" but there weren't any stops or floor levels or anything, more like the lift stage of a roller coaster. You just sort of emerged from below, rather eerie in fact. Fast, too – and a bit rattly like a dentist's waiting room left accidentally on an ocean going hovercraft. Quite exciting I suppose but altogether I prefer rail travel.
