So what if there are a few steps before the entrance? Are they too proud to crawl before the LORD?

I bet they'd climb over a few steps for some oxycodone!

Any righteous cripple should be proud to leave their comfortable chair and slink over the steps like a slug to lie outside the door and hear the joyous words of redemption from within.
I don't think there are any righteous cripples. If they were righteous they wouldn't be cripples. But it's a moot point. Whatever their righteousness quotient turns out to be, they're not allowed in The Lord's assembly. Full Stop.

But the question might bear examination, and there is one - and only one that I am aware of the pastors will advise if there are others - instance of such a persona non grata being impaired for reason other than God's smiting sin:

John 9
1
And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

Clearly he was still smitten, but God smote him from birth (usually the result of sexual impropriety), throughout his childhood and as he was growing up enduring the taunts of other young men his own age who were able to seek wives, listening to the proud and happy laughter of young fathers in the company of their legitimate heirs (while he knew only shame and abandonment), hearing about the exploits and business successes of those from whom he sought alms and enduring the indignity of dogs urinating on him because of God's Perfect Love and to show us how the His works might be made manifest not only in this wretched blind beggar but in the whole world!
Shout Glory!

But whether smitten by God for your own sins, for the sin of your great-grandfather

Numbers 14:18 The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation

or prohibited due your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather's bevaviour:

Deuteronomy 23:2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

or ethnicity:

Deuteronomy 23:3 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever:

whether because of injury (for example sustained in battle):

Deuteronomy 23:1 He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

or congenital defect:

Leviticus 21:18 For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous

you are NOT INCLUDED when the Psalmist says:

Psalm 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

nor invited, when you hear:

Psalm Chapter 122:1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

There shouldn't BE any "special" parking spots! Haven't you read the thread? Haven't you read Mr Dewitt's post? They DON'T get the luxury of "rolling in" they don't get to come in at all! They ARE EXCLUDED - not by us, but by God.

Deformed or injured persons sat outside begging from people who were allowed inside - whether the Temple in Jerusalem or the Tabernacle, or the Presence Of The Lord as otherwise located during any interim phases that may have occurred.

Acts 3
1
Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.
4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

Once healed this crippled person enjoyed a change of status.
Similarly, the blind beggar:

John 9:8 The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
read about the Pharisees HERE . .

But there is also spiritual blindness. Today's vatican mirrors the unbelief of ancient jewry just as much as the false "christianity" of demonic sects (Presbyterianism for example) and although Jesus addressed The Jews, His words condemn all false shepherds:

John 9
39
And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
