I'm not generally politically minded, but I must admit that this is the best way to manipulate children into obedience. For this reason I can't imagine why it wouldn't be best for America at large. The way I think about it is that the authority really knows what's best. That's why they've been put in a position of authority. If follows that those who are not in a position of authority don't know best, but many are vocal and quick to action anyway. When they are not working to support the rightful authority they are simply being rebellious and obstructive. Two options for correction is through physical and emotional punishment. While the rod works with children, eventually they get older and can outrun a parent with a tree branch or wooden spoon. A constant supply of guilt and shame, weaving its way into their own inner thoughts, becomes a more effective approach. By law we can't simply hit rebellious American adults, and so telling them what they should hear is the next best thing. For many, this is eagerly accepted when they learn they can count on the authority to tell them what they want to hear.
