Oh, Dear, I am sorry to learn of this trouble with your marriage, Polly. I know that your comment is to Sister Basilissa, but I hope you won't mind my commenting. It's not that I'm being nosy; heavens, no. It's just that I like to help out whenever I can -- you know, in a neighborly fashion.
Now, then, as a
servant of the
Almighty, I do feel (and know) that it's my duty to warn you of just how serious the good
is, regarding marriage. Perhaps you can have a good browse over this and let it sink in:
Malachi 2:14-16:
14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
16 For the Lord, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the Lord of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.
Matthew 19:4-6:
4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh.
What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
It is my hope and prayer that you and your husband will do whatever it is that you need to do, in order to resolve your differences and to preserve your marriage, so that you can continue to honor the
and receive
blessings. If not, I fear that your very salvation will be at great risk:
Luke 16:18 "Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery."
Exodus 20:14, 17:
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house,
thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.
I shall remember you and your husband in my prayers, Polly.
Sincerely, Isabella W.
