Getting back on topic, could it be that meteorites [yes I'm happy to run with whatever noun is best understood, the physical object is still the same] are stars that went out and became detached? Apparently there are trillions of stars and if easily visible naked-eye clusters extinguished all at once, showers of "meteorites" would be expected. God could either kill them on demand or arrange for significant battles at just those times, when the dead stars would fall down.
One thing no Christian would ever do is worship a meteorite. Not even if you fetched it out from its crater and stuck it on the corner of a great big stupid box. God is not a box and God is not a meteorite either. I could never kiss a fallen star.
