That is just one example of why the Bible cannot be taken literally. How can it be taken literally when there are many many verses that contradict each other? In the end it comes down to interpretation.

Then please do enlighten us as to how it is supposed to be read. Also, if it comes down to interpretation (which 2 Peter 1:20 says it doesn't, but let's suppose
arguendo that it does), how do you know that your interpretation is the correct one?
