A gift is not something that one must prove themselves worthy of, neither before or after receiving it.

So? What is your point?
Just because eternal life is undeserved, i.e. a gift, does not mean that everyone will receive this gift. If you read the whole Bible in context you would know that Matthew 7:21 promises us that not everyone gets into Heaven. John 3:18, and a slew of other verses promise us that there are plenty of people who will be damned.
And of course normal parents take away their kids toys when they are being punished, though my kids don't have toys. They already have the undeserved gift of eternal life, so I don't feel like they deserve toys. Except for my favorite son George W. Jenkins. I get him little soldiers that he can rip the arms and legs off of because he is going to be POTUS someday.
