Default Day 35. Leviticus 16-18 - 10-09-2007, 05:56 PM

Leviticus 16-18

Finally, Leviticus 18.

Today we get:
  • Aaron's sin offering
  • Offerings
  • Blood rules
  • Nakedness rules
  • Abominations

Leviticus 16

If you remember back, God killed two of Aaron's sons for the strange incense. Today, we see God wants Aaron to offer sacrifices because of his sons' sins. Parents are responsible for their children's actions, just as the children inherit the parents inequities.

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the LORD, and died;

3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.

The bullock is for the bad thing that was done, the ram is because you WANT to.

EXCEPT, there's going to be 2 rams involved. One will be sacrificed, the other will be let go into the wilderness.

8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.

The scapegoat will be presented to the LORD, and the sin will be confessed to the goat.

22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

Kind of like the swine that Jesus sends the demons into. This goat bears all the sin for the people. It just runs around bearing the sin for the rest of it's life.

Leviticus 17

3 What man soever there be of the house of Israel, that killeth an ox, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or that killeth it out of the camp,

4 And bringeth it not unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to offer an offering unto the LORD before the tabernacle of the LORD; blood shall be imputed unto that man; he hath shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people:

If you kill an animal, you must bring some blood (and some of the beast) to the tabernacle as an offering, saying thanks to God.

If you don't, you are cut off.

10 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.

Drink blood and you are cut off. If you are cut off, you can't get to heaven. If you can't get to heaven, you go to hell.

Whenever you see that someone is cut off, or can't worship, that person is doomed to hell.

11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

The only blood that can be drank is symbolic blood, and that's Jesus blood. Imagine the disciples surprise when Jesus said "this is my blood, drink". It's contrary to the law.

Leviticus 18

PRAISE JESUS for Leviticus 18.

Can I get an AMEN?

Here's the rules/laws in it.

3 After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.

Don't do what they did/don't do what they do.

6 None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.

Who all shouldn't you uncover?

Father, mother, father's wife, sister (either your father's or mother's child), son's daughter, daughter's daughter, father's wife's daughter, aunt, uncle, daughter in law, brother's wife, woman and her daughter, woman and her grandchild, woman and sister, woman on her period.

20 Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her.

Don't lie with your neighbour's wife. A neighbour is one who is like you, not the guy who lives next door.

21 And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
Molech was a Phoenician god.
22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
No hot sweaty man on man action!
23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
No one can have sex with animals!

If these are done:

25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.

Why did Israel go away in the first place? The land vomited it out!

29 For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.

Don't commit abominations! In addition to not doing bad things, you should do the good things.

30 Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.

PRAISE JESUS!!!

So what have we learned today:

1. The scapegoat got to roam around with the people's sin.
2. If you kill an animal, some of it has to go to God.
3. Don't look at (pretty much) any relative closer than cousin naked.
4. Don't be an abomination!
