Marshall Applewhite (1931-1997)
Or "Do," as he preferred to call himself. This nancy is best known as the leader of the Heaven's Gate cult who led himself and 38 followers in a mass suicide. Applewhite grew up in Texas, but his queerness ultimately won out and he wound up teaching music at the college level. He was fired from his job for engaging in sodomy with a male student, and later became a drifter. Applewhite met a woman named Bonnie Nettles, who shared his obsession with aliens and
Star Trek. Calling themselves Ti and Do, they started a cult, drawing a small group of nerds and virgins around them. Blasphemously, they called it "Heaven's Gate" and
Do called himself the son of God (Matthew 7:15). Despite Ti's claims of supernatural powers, God struck her down with cancer and cast her into Hell. Later, Do had himself castrated, making him even more of a sissy (Deuteronomy 23:1, 1 Corinthians 6:9). He also controlled the lives of his followers to an extreme degree. Ultimately, he proved to be an astrologer and a soothsayer as well, as he claimed that the arrival of the Hale-Bopp Comet would usher in the end of the world (Deuteronomy 18:9-12). He led his followers in a mass suicide ("39 to beam up"
). They did NOT go to a UFO or to "the Kingdom level above human" or whatever other nonsense this deranged sodomite spewed; they were cast straight into Hell.
