Re: Wedding Dress DONT'S & DO'S -

Sister, while those dresses could be pretty by some, I would suggest looking again dear. After all, we don't want to be sending the wrong message. The problem with the first one was that besides the obvious issues you pointed out, it drew far too much attention to your bosom, which only a harlot does. Since you aren't, I strongly recommend you to stay away from that dress. The second one looks ivory (I'm sure you are a virgin, Esther) and it also has a low neckline. The third has a low neckline and is too translucent to really be considered modest. I'm sorry dear to have killed your ideas, but we really should obey Scripture.
1 Timothy 2:9 says "- In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array"
1 Peter 3:3-4 says "Whose adorning let it not be that outward [adorning] of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4 But [let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, [even the ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price."
Proverbs 31:30 says "Favour [is] deceitful, and beauty [is] vain: [but] a woman [that] feareth the LORD, she shall be praised."
Obviously you want to be in obedience to the Word of God, so here are some dresses that my husband and I looked over. We like these.
Yours in Christ,
Elizabeth

Thank you so much, Sister Elizabeth! You are completely right and the dresses that you and your husband found are lovely. I found a picture of an extremely modest long-sleeved and high-collared (and pure white) dress, but the buttons on it concern me as they go up the front and would draw unnecessary attention to my bosom. Samuel's mother and sister are excellent at sewing and I'm sure that if I can find the picture of that particular dress again, I'm sure that they'd be able to make a similar dress with a plain front and the buttons on the back.
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Just reverse the pattern, and put the buttons down the back, hidden by your long hair and the veil. That way, they are unobtrusive. Hope that helps, dear!

Of course, Sister! If I choose this dress, I will also make it clear that there are to be no buttons below my waist.
Sadly, most of the modest dresses that I've seen pictures of aren't as modest as they should be.

Of course! And the dresses are all ones that have been approved of by a senior pastor and his wife. If your father has any issues with these dresses, have him speak to me.

Here are some dont's that I wouldn't be caught dead in. The second one would look awful, even in white.
However, I would consider using the first dress' shade of pink for bridesmaids dresses.

Esther, my dear sister, how did you come across those pornographic images? Young lady, you should not be seeing that. Remember this song, which I'm linking. "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsTWc_tAGts". My dear, as the senior pastor's wife, I can guarantee this is family friendly and appropriate for you to watch.

They do look awful - kinda as if these poor ladies stumbled upon a huge pile of sheer/net curtains and were stuck in it and couldn't get out. The so called "designers" really need to learn that too much of a good thing is not a good thing.

I'm pleased to hear that some of the single women here have taste. Those dresses look like sickly sweet meringues. Personally I like the one where the young lady in question looks so happy - radiantly happy. That first one in Mrs Johnson's post. You can tell from her face just how much she loves her fiance and her dress. I'm thinking her mother may have made it for her - a labor of maternal love. And I think I can even see a fading black eye in that photo.

I was Skyping with Michel last night and when she was excitedly talking about her possible future suitor, I quickly heard the words "pink wedding dress". Since her father obviously isn't able to hear (and monitor) her conversation, I took it upon myself to find some pictures to show her why a pink wedding dress would not be appropriate. I'm hoping to show her the pictures when she comes over this coming week (along with telling her that only harlots wear wedding dresses that aren't white.
Thank you for your concern, Sister.

Maybe, next time, don't concern yourself with googling such things. Pink should be enough of a turn off. You do seem like a lovely lady.

Thank you for your concern, Sister!
This isn't the original dress that I was eying, but it is very similar to it. It's pure white, has long sleeves and a high collar, and there isn't a single bit of see-through fabric. As I said earlier in this thread, I'd put the buttons in the back and have them no lower than my waist (just like in the picture) so as not to draw attention to my, ahem, bust.

Esther, what a lovely dress! When's the wedding? It's appropriate, and godly, and very befitting a woman like you! My husband says he's always glad to see a sensible bride who doesn't bother herself with taffeta and silk.

Thank you, Sister! The wedding hasn't been planned yet, but it seems to become more likely every day. Samuel is waiting for God to give him a sign that he should propose to me.

Sister, that is simply the watermark that came over this photo. I simply found it pretty and tasteful so I posted it for inspiration

What a lovely dress! I'm not sure if it would be appropriate, though. The sleeves are too short and it almost looks like there are pearls on them and on the flower. 1 Timothy 2:9-10 says that pearls are a big no-no.

Latter Day Bride, who made this immodest garment, is based in Salt Lake City. Need I say more?
It is no surprise that the - er - slight bulge below the high waist suggests that this marriage may be taking place about 6 months too late.

Pardon if this dress is offensive. I agree that the sleves are a bit short and I didn't even notice the pearls. I just thought it lovely and to be a good source of inspiration. Pardon anyone whom I may have offended. I am terribly sorry
Perhaps something like this would be more fitting? Once again I am terribly sorry, I'm just attempting to gain some Godly imput on wedding dresses
