Almost every day, an atheist comes to this forum claiming to have found the ultimate "proof" the Bible is somehow mistaken. Today, an atheist tried the following
in this thread - consider the following two verses where Paul tells a man not to commit suicide:
Acts 16:27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
Acts 16:28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
The atheist took
only the second verse and twisted the part "
Do thyself no harm" to "
if you harm yourself in any way, you are a sinner". Then he went on with a long rant about all the ways in which we supposedly harm ourselves. Basically, this is
the atheist method of refuting the Bible. The following method is also popular. Let us consider the following (hypothetical) scenario:
Verse 1: I want to kill myself
Verse 2: please don't harm yourself
--> ok, no harming yourself... reasonable
Verse 3: if I don't chop my arm off with an axe, I will drown and die
Verse 4: please chop your arm off
--> AHA, verse 4 contradicts with verse 2!!!
See how easy it is to find "contradictions" in the Bible?
