It's great that Jesus is almost back on Earth, ready to do His business and set up His wonderful kingdom where we will reign with Him and everyone else will be banished. I discussed this with a friend who reminded me that not everyone agrees on what happens to those people. Will they be incinerated? Hell as described doesn't sound very pleasant but there are alternatives, so-called Annihilation Theory being one of them. According to that, the unsaved cease to exist. How that is effected no proponent can explain but to help them out my friend suggested that 50% of their baryonic particles turning into antiparticles would achieve that outcome. Then there's purgatory [Hi, Joe!] and limbo, according to certain popes du jour [but not currently] Kolob and reincarnation and
we all become ectoplasm. Around about then I interrupted to point out that wherever they are, they won't be in Heaven so it's just us and Jesus.
The importance of prayer is overwhelming I Thessalonians 5:17 but my friend went on to Hitler and Stalin commanding absolute loyalty. “If that were so,” and this might be a silly question but I'll pass it on because I couldn't think of an answer, “why did they need so many internal spies to root out traitors to the cause? And why were the internal camps for disloyal persons filled to overflowing with new arrivals coming in by the truckload?” I pointed out that a concentration camp doesn't overflow: it becomes more concentrated – but I felt this didn't really meet the situation.
My friend's head turned purple at this point and elements of my dress sense were described, quite cruelly I thought, but I don't want to lose this friend who's interesting when not shouting and turning purple so any feedback on how to answer the point would be welcome.
In Christ.
