Numbers 28-30
Today we get:
- Sacrifices
- Offerings
- Vows
It's kind of a slow day today, lots of demands for sacrifice on certain days, so lets get started.
Numbers 28
2 Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.
These are the observances.
Everyday; A lamb in the morning and at night, flour, some oil, some wine. (Num. 28:3-8)
Sabbath; two more lambs, twice the flour, and oil, and wine. (Num. 28:9-10)
First of the month; two bullocks, a ram, 7 lambs, 12 parts flour, oil, wine. (Num. 28:11-15)
Feast of Unleavened Bread; two bullocks, a ram, seven lambs, flour and oil. (Num. 28:17-22)
24 After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.
The feast of unleavened bread lasts seven days.
Firstfruits; two bullocks, a ram, seven lambs, flour, oil, wine. (Num. 28:26-30)
So far in the year we've got to daily sacrifice 2 lambs, 2 more lambs on sabbath, and then 18 bullocks, 9 rams, and 63 more lambs.
Numbers 29.
Day of trumpets; one bullock, one ram, seven lambs, flour, oil, wine, one goat kid. (Num. 29:1-6)
Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur); one bullock, one ram, seven lambs, one goat kid, oil, flour, wine. (Num. 29:7-11)
Seven days of the feasts of Tabernacles (Sukkot);
Day 1; 13 bullocks, two rams, 14 lambs, one goat kid, flour, oil, wine. (Num. 29:12-16)
Day 2; 12 bullocks, two rams, 14 lambs, one goat kid, flour, oil, wine. (Num 29:17-19)
Day 3; 11 bullocks, two rams, 14 lambs, one goat, flour, oil, wine. (Num. 29:20-22)
Day 4; 10 bullocks, two rams, 14 lambs, one goat kid, flour, oil, wine. (Num. 29:23-25)
Day 5; 9 bullocks, two rams, 14 lambs, one goat, flour, oil, wine. (Num. 29:26-28)
Day 6; 8 bullocks, two rams, 14 lambs, one goat, flour, oil, wine. (Num. 29:29-31)
Day 7; 7 bullocks, two rams, 14 lambs, one goat, flour, oil, wine. (Num. 29:32-34)
Over that 7 days, that's 70 bullocks, 14 rams, 98 lambs, 7 goats (some kids) lots of flour, oil and wine.
Day 8 (crap, there's more!) one bullock, one ram, 7 lambs, one goat, flour, oil, wine. (Num. 29: 35-38)
39 These things ye shall do unto the LORD in your set feasts, beside your vows, and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings, and for your meat offerings, and for your drink offerings, and for your peace offerings.
This is all in addition to the offerings that they were supposed to do for everything else.
Numbers 30
2 If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.
As God is my witness; I'll never be poor again!
If a woman who lives in her father's house makes a vow, if the father hears it, he can break it, if he wants.
6 And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul;
If the husband hears it, he can break it if he wants.
These two vow verses show that women are the property and responsibility of their men, either husband or father. Just like cattle.
A widow or divorce's vow is their own.
If a husband breaks a vow of his wife, other than when he first hears it, then he is the one who has to bear the inequity of it.
15 But if he shall any ways make them void after that he hath heard them; then he shall bear her iniquity.
16 These are the statutes, which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, being yet in her youth in her father's house.
You see the man comes first in the relationship. He is the possessor. The woman belongs to the man. The man and his wife; the father and his daughter. Not wife and husband, not daughter and father. Taking care of women is man's responsibility. Just like taking care of the sheep and oxen.
So what have we learned today?
1. God wants lots of animals killed each year, just to placate him.
2. Women belong to man. Men are responsible for the women's vow.
