I dunno, Sister Joanna.

On one hand, I do like your gin suggestion - after all, alcohol kills viruses and bacteria.

On the other hand, we wouldn't want to drink strange chemicals - so I'd say drinking swimming pool water is out of the question, too much pee there.

However, tap water is chlorinated, isn't it? So a drink of tap water directly from the tap, and then gin and tonic to kill the chlorine aftertaste, should do the trick.
