Bomb Iran, majority of Americans says in new poll

Despite President Bush's perpetually abysmal approval ratings, it appears his increasingly hostile rhetoric against Iran has drummed up enough fear of a "nuclear holocaust" or a World War III that a majority of Americans are in favor of a US strike against the country aimed a curtailing its apparent nuclear ambitions, a new poll shows.
The Zogby International survey shows 52 percent of Americans would support a strike on Iran, while 53 percent expect President Bush to launch such an attack before the end of his second term. Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is voters' No. 1 choice to deal with Iran, with 21 percent saying they would like to see her take on Tehran from the White House. Republican Rudy Giuliani was voters' second choice, with 15 percent.
Just 29 percent of Americans think the US should not attack Iran, with one in five people unsure about military action. Of those who would support a strike, 28 percent believe military action should wait until the next president is in office, while 23 percent want to see Bush let lose US missiles against Iran.
The poll results were viewed with a "Here we go again" attitude from bloggers chagrined at the apparent lack of lessons learned by Americans as the war launched against another hostile Middle Eastern regime stretches towards its fifth year.
"It is utterly stunning that, after the great difficulties we have clearly faced in Iraq (a situation far from finished, by the way), that an absolute majority would favor a strike on Iran at this time," writes Dr. Steven Taylor at PoliBlog. "Even if we assume that the die-hard 25%-30% who still approve of the way the President is doing his job also are in favor of such a strike, where do the other 27%-22% come from to get the pro-strike total to 52%?"
The support for an Iranian strike coincides with substantial fears of further terrorist attacks demonstrated in the Zogby poll. More than two-thirds of Americans (68 percent) believe another terrorist attack is likely on US soil and nearly one-in three believe such a strike will come before 2010.
Polls conducted prior to the invasion of Iraq showed larger majorities of Americans in favor of military action, and around 80 percent of Americans believed Iraq posed a threat to the United States in late 2002 and early 2003.
Don Surber, blogging for West Virginia's Charleston Daily Mail compared the speculation over a strike on Iran to another showdown over nuclear proliferation nearly half a century ago.
"I was in grade school when the Cuban Missile Crisis happened 45 Octobers ago. I was gung-ho for taking Castro out. Wiser heads prevailed — in the Soviet Union as well as the United States," he writes. "The security of the world rests on American shoulders. I’d bet against a military strike. There are enough wiser heads on both sides."


We should have bombed Cuba during the Bay of Pigs crisis. Its full of communists and Catholics - Iran is full of angry violent ragheads - its like shooting fish in a barrel...with a depth charge!.....so what are we waiting for?

Oh how I long to wake up one morning and hear the glorious news that America has bombed the nuclear research facilities near th city of Isfahan and, with luck, that more than a few bombs have gone astray and blown that ancient city's satanic "holy sites" to smithereens.

The Middle East will be in flames. Well, even more than it is already.

And if there is general warfare in the holy lands, can Jesus' second coming be far behind?

Now, as many Persians note, Iran has not invaded or attacked a foreign nation in recent memory. It was attacked by Iraq and defended itself, and it was wracked by internal strife during the overthrow of the Shah, but Iran is not exactly a belligerent nation.

And in point of fact, the nuclear non-proliferation treaty explicitly encourages nations to develop peaceful nuclear energy technology. Which is what Iran says it is doing.

So what?

The modern version of Hitlerian lebensraum -- living-space -- is of course oil. The Middle East has the world's largest oil reserves. Therefore it is essential that America dominate the Middle East for the sake of this modern lebensraum, and one step in that process is to destroy any cohesive government which does not cooperate with America.

Now, as to the proper Christian attitude here: What did Moses do in his campaign to gain lebensraum in the Promised Land for his wandering people? He wiped out the Midianites, for one thing, killing all of the males and all the non-virgin females. He wiped out the Amalekites.

War, genocide, and the destruction of nations is Biblical as baptism.

As the theologian Rousas Rushdoony put it,

"Israel was attacked by Amalek. According to Deuteronomy 25:17, Amalek 'feared not God.' Amalek's attack on Israel...was an obscene defiance of God and a contempt for God. Where men attack God's people, there we often have a covert or overt attack on God...There is thus continual warfare...between God's people and God's enemies. The outcome must be the blotting out of God's enemies."

This is the true Christian attitude: There is perpetual war between the people of God and the others. According to God's word, there is but one possible outcome: the others shall be defeated. God's enemies must be blotted out.

In this case, it is a simple matter to identify these others as Iranians bent on seizing knowledge of nuclear technology -- a metaphorical apple hanging on the modern tree of knowledge, if you will.

Does the average American Baptist -- sitting at a breakfast counter in Des Moines eating a plate of hashbrowns and gravy with a chicken-fried steak on the side -- believe that striking Iran is part of God's work to blot out the enemies of Christ? Probably not consciously, no. But his religion is infused with the notion of the Chosen People and their destiny as rulers of the Earth. It is steeped in the idea that the enemies of God shall be defeated, and that the defeat will involve bloody and violent battles.

We are talking here about things taken for granted on a subconscious level. On that level a military strike against Iran is easily accepted by Christian America.

And the Lord shall prevail! Praise Christ!

I am truly terrified by the community here at the Landover Baptist Church. How on Earth can you condone and hope for the death of millions of people? I would like one moderator to please, please explain to me, in full, exactly why an assault on Iran would be a good thing? From a Christian persepctive, I could immediatly see that it should be avoided, due to the large amount of MURDER that would be involved. I will not get into the lengthy political reasons why an Iranian invasion would be a total DISASTER for America, Iran, and the World, but will simply focus on the morality of it. How can you morally justify voting for MURDER?

There is no agreed translation for Arabic to English. I have seen Obama ben Laden's name spelt several different ways.

While there is little difference if ask me between Edwards and your Kucinich, since they both support disgusting, anti-Christians things like peace and balanced budgets none of them support such ghastly hidden Satanic agendas as Hellery Clinton.
