Default Day 280. Zechariah 11-14 - 09-19-2011, 05:27 PM

Zechariah 11-14

Zechariah 11

1 Open thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour thy cedars.

Lebanon was known for it's trees, remember, the temple was made with Lebanon cedar.

2 Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled: howl, O ye oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down.

Fir trees are representative of the trees surrounding Jerusalem. Not the trees on the hills of Jerusalem, but the stuff in the valley below. The Oaks of Bashan are the Golan Heights.

Next, they talk about being a shepherd.

5 Whose possessors slay them, and hold themselves not guilty: and they that sell them say, Blessed be the LORD; for I am rich: and their own shepherds pity them not.

Good shepherds don't kill their flocks, their sheep live forever... are never sold, aren't sacrificed...

I find it odd that there are still shepherd references used. So far, there haven't been very many keepers of sheep: Abel, actually did. Abraham had a lot of sheep, but he had people do it for him; Rachel kept sheep; Jacob kept them for Laban, but did he actually do any work? Based on how he behaved, I'd guess not; the brothers of Joseph were keeping the flock in Shechem; David kept sheep; after that, there's really no people who actually kept sheep. At least no main characters kept the sheep themselves.

6 For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD: but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbour's hand, and into the hand of his king: and they shall smite the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them.

Once again, God isn't going to help.

7 And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took unto me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.

Beauty and Bands, the rod and the staff. Beauty was the temple, Bands (or Bonds) was the united countries of Judah and Israel.

9 Then said I, I will not feed you: that that dieth, let it die; and that that is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.

Active God is going to be passive God. What's going to happen will happen. He doesn't really care anymore.

God's going to sell his sticks.

First he breaks Beauty, and tries to get money for it.

12 And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver.

Hmm, what else was (will be) sold for thirty pieces of silver?

13 And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.

(Read Matthew 27, for more of the 30 pieces/potter story)

Then he breaks Bands.

14 Then I cut asunder mine other staff, even Bands, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

He didn't sell Bands.

17 Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

He's not talking about AJ Burnett, his arm hasn't fully dried up yet.

Zechariah 12

2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.

At some point, people aren't going to want to take over Jerusalem anymore.

3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

It's going to take a huge policy blunder by Israel for them to get the U.S. to gather with the others against it. But it's not out of the question.

6 In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.

They are going to win, kind of like they did back in 1948 and 1967.

8 In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.

Everyone is going to step up a notch.

10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

hmmm, who was pierced?

11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.

Remember, Megiddon is the place were Armageddon is going to happen. But, why are the people going to be mourning? Because they rejected the messiah, they will realize their error. Oops.

Zechariah 13

1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.

2 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land.

Ah, one day, God is going to remove all sin. Why He ever created it, no one knows. It almost makes no sense to create something that has damned more than 90% of all humanity to hell, only to eventually wipe it out, but that's God's Holy Will, and who the hell are you to question Him!

Then, there's some stuff about false prophets saying they were false prophets.

7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

After the shepherd (Messiah) is smited, the sheep will be scattered.

8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

2/3 of the world will die, huzzah!

Zechariah 14

1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.

"Day of the LORD", remember, that's not a good thing. The aftermath is a good thing, but you probably won't want to be on the wrong side of the thing that happens.

3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

Would you recognize the LORD if he went out and fought for you?

9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

Soon, soon. (This week?)

11 And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.

The ultimate goal of Christianity and Judaism is the foundation of God's Kingdom, resonating from Jerusalem.

14 And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.

After the great war, Jerusalem (and Judah comes back) will get to take the spoils of all those Arab nations. Hopefully they take their oil too.

17 And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.

Wait, there will still be bad people? I thought all of that went away.

And now we end the prophecy of Zechariah. Zechariah 14:21.

21 Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.

No NIGGERS!

So what have we learned.

1. The trees are going to be cut down, which they were when the Romans destroyed the Temple.

2. God's going to break Beauty and Bands.

3. When Jesus comes back, there will be no niggers allowed in the temple.

PRAISE JESUS!!!

Intresting, everyone knew about sheep keeping yet no one accutally was a sheepered. I wonder if the problem here is we are not taking this literally enough?
PSALMS 23:1
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
God HIMSELF may have been out there tending to the sheep while the ancient Israelites were off doing their thing. That God was humping it around Judea with a sheep flock would also explain why the Isrealites seemed to deal see God as their guy who comes into town every now and then and not as a constant presence.
