Hello to the Good People of the Landover Baptist Church -
11-04-2020, 09:16 PM
Hi, I'm Tony. I'm a physician who, for the past 36 years, has led the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. I have advised six Presidents on combating illness from infectious diseases including AIDS and COVID.
I was born a Catholic, but I am not active in the Church anymore. I'm less enamored of organized religion than I am with the principles of humanity and goodness to mankind and doing the best that you can. However, I credit the Jesuit instruction I received as a major influence on the person I am today--in particular, the Catholic emphasis on social justice has had a profound effect on me. I certainly believe that Jesus expressed many fine sentiments in the Gospels.
My favorite Bible verse is Matthew 5:44, in which Jesus said, "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." I am sure this is one of your favorite verses, too.

Don't be so presumptuous!
Have you ensured you hate your parents, wife, kids, even yourself, Doctor?
Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

Deuteronomy 27:16 Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.
Proverbs 10:2: Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
Ephesians 6:1: Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise.
I do not hate anyone. I miss my parents a great deal, and I love and am proud of my wife and daughters. Do you think Jesus hated his father?

Dishonoring and hating your parents are two different things.

The sin of which pertains to one's own soul, not mutually linked to God's order to hate your kin.

Obedience and to hate one's kin are separate. I hated my father! But I always obeyed him!

That's nice, sir. Please don't cherrypick the Bible next time.

Hold on just a darn tink Dr. Toole. My rape and subsequent marriage to Peter Chung may have stained my potential to receive the full love of Jesus Christ, but I am striving for God and am sincere in my struggle.

I am very proud of my work on AIDS. As for COVID, I'm doing what I can (thus my outreach to superspreader churches like yours), but the administration refuses to listen.

We know you're a double agent for Bill Gates and his Satanic agenda, Dr. Faustus. As soon as President Trump has Biden arrested for his treasonous attempt at an electoral coup d'etat, guess what:
No more masks, "Dr." Fauci. No more social distancing, "Dr." Fauci. No more imaginary pandemics. "Dr." Fauci. Your reign of terror is DONE. Take your Presidential Medal of Freedom and shove it up your ass!

My apologies, I forgot that you only accept the King James Version of the Bible, and I do not wish to offend:
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Colossians 3:8

How about a <<<pervert sexual act that cannot result in pregnancy>>>? I've been <<<pervert sexual life details>>> for nine months. Do you think they teach just just Bible at Catholic school?

Mrs. Chung, you have made some excellent posts here, but you have to watch your language. Ladies read this thread. I am sure we can respond to Dr. Fauci by attacking his barrage of false statements and errant recommendations without resorting to open discussions of matters best left between a man and his wife stated in blunt language.

I deeply apologize for my comment last night. I was brought to a fundraiser for Christ and funnelled too much cognac I am deeply ashamed to admit...and well. DEMONS! Clearly I have internal demons I need grave help being relieved of. I must attend these drink ups though because well...Our 10,000 seat sanctuary doesn't pay itself over COVID!!

Does that include President Reagan and his wise decision to not do anything because he saw AIDS as a perfect means to getting rid of homosexuals? If you were among the people who advised him to do nothing, then I think we'll find some common threads with you, despite you being a hellbound scientist Catholic!

Well, if by "social justice" you mean that slaves should be obedient, and authorities should not be questioned, then yes, Jesus did express many fine sentiments in the Gospels.

Hi .
It's always good to see someone reading The Bible. Jesus referred to Scripture for support of His claims, as did Paul when pointing out how he knew Jesus was God.
God is still Jesus of course but as He's not presently on earth it's something of a moot point and The Holy Ghost refers our prayers on. The Bible is quite clear that there is one mediator, not half a dozen or a different one for every day of the year I Timothy 2:5 so we know that God is also The Holy Ghost, otherwise our prayers would be ineffective.

What is good? There have been many ideas about that! Aristotle for instance had one idea, Pythagoras something a little more esoteric, Epicurus and Caligula perhaps more pragmatic but very different from one another. What does James report?
James 1:5-7 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
Now in our present circumstances you're relating the verse you cited to health concerns. What constitutes "good" is covered in the very next chapter. The Bible is always thorough and it's never necessary for me to cook up ideas of my own so the best thing to do is described unambiguously in chapter five.
James 5:13-16c Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
God is explicit. Where sickness or other afflictions are present, Christians know what to do because God has explained what to do. Knowing that but doing something else, something wrong, is what James means in this case. He says so. No interpretation necessary. God's promise is 100% efficacious not a suggestion that one might recover or might not recover or get worse or not get worse according to criteria He has not included. Healing is GUARANTEED - guaranteed by the Creator of the universe.
Some people disagree. They claim gargling with Ipecacuanha & squills is a better idea or maybe some chlorodyne. Better than 100% .? Better than God? Perhaps you've met people like that. When you ask them how they know God got it wrong, what sorts of replies do you get?
Welcome to the forum; looking forward to your response.

Dr. Fauci, I just want you to know that we at Landover Baptist Church do not condone Steve Bannon's twitter message encouraging beheading you. Violence is not the answer in a civilized nation. We simply think you should be removed from office and thrown into prison for negligent homicide.

Multiple homicide with numbers like these would confer some sort of superstar status among his fellow prisoners. So it wouldn't be all bad.
