"Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." Matthew 5:11-12
Though we are blessed for the persecution, it is truly horrifying to be called Nazis for our adherence to the Bible. Horrifying, and WRONG. Since many heathens, atheists, and false Christians regularly bandy about this truly inappropriate (both in taste and accuracy) insult, I have taken the time to write this to inform people exactly what the differences between Nazis and True Christians ™ are (guess what, there's a lot of them!). We will take a look at the religious leanings and views of top Nazi leaders, and then take a look at two religious movements that emerged out of Nazism.
The Religious Views of the Top Officials in the Nazi Party
It is a common misconception that the leaders of the Nazi party were Christian. Though both Hitler and Goebbels were nominally Cathlick, even they had lapsed in their beliefs and were notable for their irreligious views on life. A few notable party members, like Rudolf Hess and Heinrich Himmler, were interested in mysticism and occult groups, like Anthroposophy. In fact Himmler, being the leader of the SS, incorporated many strange occult ideas and practices in that organization. Finally, Martin Bormann, secretary to the Nazi party in the later years of the war, came out publicly with this quote:
"When we [National Socialists] speak of belief in God, we do not mean, like the naive Christians and their spiritual exploiters, a man-like being sitting around somewhere in the universe. The force governed by natural law by which all these countless planets move in the universe, we call omnipotence or God. The assertion that this universal force can trouble itself about the destiny of each individual being, every smallest earthly bacillus, can be influenced by so-called prayers or other surprising things, depends upon a requisite dose of naivety or else upon shameless professional self-interest."
So, as we can see, the various leaders of the Nazi party were not particularly Christian people. In fact, they usually saw it as a competitor and totally irreconcilable with their beliefs. However, since Germany did have a substantial amount of Christians in it, the Nazis did see a use in subverting Christianity for their own ends.
Positive "Christianity"
The symbol of Positive Christianity, an old pagan symbol chosen for its visual similarities to the cross and a swastika.
"If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" Psalm 11:3
As I said earlier, the Nazis did see in Christianity a useful tool in controlling their populace, and created a new form of Christianity known as "Positive Christianity" to pervert the religious leanings of their citizens. At it heart, Positive Christianity was an amalgamation of an old heresy known as Marcionism and Germanic pagan symbolism. Marcionism, founded by Marcion of Rome around 144 AD, is the belief that the God of the Old Testament is a separate, lower deity than the God of the New Testament. Marcion preached that the Old Testament God was a demiurge, and that the Old Testament should be completely abandoned.
Of course, there were some Nazis who hated Christianity so much that they couldn't even accept it in a watered-down, heretical version.
The German Faith Movement
"Thou shalt have no other gods before me" Exodus 20:3
The German Faith Movement was started by Jakob Wilhelm Hauer during the Third Reich due to his intense hatred of Christianity. It completely rejected the Bible and used a combination of secular German literature and Hindoo texts such as the Bhagavad Gita as its scripture. It managed to obtain rights of civil tolerance from Rudolf Hess (who I already explained was into occultism), and was mainly focused on a pagan sun deity, the rejection of any ethics associated with Christianity, and Hitler's personality cult.
So What Does all This Mean?
True Christians™ believe that Jesus Christ was divine, the KJV 1611 Bible (Both the Old AND New Testaments) are the only scripture that is the word of God, and that mystics and occultists go to Hell for all of eternity.
So the next time you are going to call a True Christian™ a Nazi because of their beliefs, think back to this and realize just how very wrong that is!
