UN Backs Push to End Female Circumcision

There is no valid medical reason to routinely circumsize either sex. Circumcision does not affect libido one way or the other, and a daily application of soap and water is sufficinet to prevent any accumulation of secretions or odor. Circumcision does not prevent cancer, and phimosis is rare.

How about this idea, plain Jane? Why don't you do this first, you know, try female circumcision for yourself and let us know if it stomps out your premarital desire to have children? After all, if you're a 'True Christian, trademark sign included' you'll have to wait for marriage and only be ready to have kids when your husband wants them with no pleasure in the act for you. So why don't you just let these people cut off you clit and kill two birds with one stone?

I personally think it's cruel, dangerous, and utterly unnecessary. But if you're willing to do it than I'm sure others will follow. The idea that circumcision ensures chaatity is ridiculous. Desire is caused by hormones produced in the gonads and the pituitary gland, and the production of these hormones is influenced by emotion. Removing a girl's clitoris and/or labia is mutilation pure and simple, and serves NO useful purpose.

The first is that it is not supported by Scripture. I can't find anything in my Bible that recommends that baby girls get circumcised. Circumcision was for Hebrew boys as part of their covenant with God.

Secondly, female circumcision makes it difficult for the husband to fulfil his obligation under I Cor 7:3, "Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband."

The reason female circumcision is only practised in Muslim countries is that those fellows can't satisfy a woman anyway, so a faithful Muslim wife will never miss those parts. I can understand why those folks need such a strong deterrent to unfaithfulness.

As for the other reasons you mentioned, I believe that's why God invented soap and running water.

According to a statement from the U.N. agencies, between 100 and 140 million women and girls are estimated to have undergone female circumcision, and 3 million girls are estimated to be at risk of undergoing the procedure every year.

It is practiced by Muslims and Christians alike, deeply rooted in the Nile Valley region and parts of sub-Saharan African, and is also performed in Yemen and Oman. Through migration, the practice has spread to Western countries like Britain.

Can 140 million people be so absolutely wrong? I would like to see statistics on unmarried teen pregnancies for these people before jumping to any conclusions. A focus group in Watts might be a good place to begin validation.

The reduced risk of penile cancer (more likely to get struck by lightning then get it) is all that circumcised men gain, whereas they gain things like increased risk of herpes and problems with erosion to the head of the penis.

Although circumcision of the male does make sex much less enjoyable for man and woman, that is good right?

If people have access to water of any kind, it only takes a small amount to clean the glans under the foreskin.
