A psychiatrist says John Patrick Bedell tried to self-medicate his bipolar illness with marijuana, inadvertently making his symptoms more pronounced.

HOLLISTER, Calif. - The California man who was killed in a shootout with Pentagon police had a history of mental illness and had become so erratic that his parents reached out to local authorities weeks ago with a warning that he was unstable and might have a gun, authorities said Friday. It's still unclear why John Patrick Bedell opened fire Thursday at the Pentagon entrance, wounding two police officers before he was fatally shot. The two officers were hospitalized briefly with minor injuries.
Bedell was diagnosed as bipolar, or manic depressive, and had been in and out of treatment programs for years. His psychiatrist, J. Michael Nelson, said Bedell tried to self-medicate with marijuana, inadvertently making his symptoms more pronounced.

We can see that this man had a history of smoking the devil's drug, which in turn, caused him to go insane (bipolar disorder) and go on a shooting rampage at the Pentagon. Yet, we as a society are complicit in this crime for we should've seen the warning signs...

Pentagon shooting suspect arrested in Reno with pink pot pipe and 2.6 ounces of marijuana

The 36-year-old man shot and killed Thursday by police at the Pentagon after he opened fire at a security checkpoint was arrested about a month earlier in Reno for driving under the influence of marijuana and possessing the drug.


During that Feb. 1 arrest by Washoe sheriff’s deputies, John Patrick Bedell did not appear violent or have any weapons, according to a probable cause arrest report. He appeared so intoxicated that he nearly fell over during portions of the sobriety tests he was given.


Authorities in Washington D.C., said they have no apparent motive for the shootings, where Bedell slightly wounded two Pentagon police officers. T Pentagon officers returned fire and killed him.


Reports say that Bedell was calm when he coolly drew a weapon from his pocket and started firing during the point-blank attack.


On Feb. 5, Bedell posted $2,080 cash bail in Reno on charges of driving under the influence of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance, records show. He was given a March 2 arraignment date in Reno Justice Court and failed to appear.


Bedell was arrested in Reno at South Virginia Street and Longley Lane about 9:30 p.m, Feb. 1 following a traffic stop. A deputy suspected he was intoxicated due to the vehicle drifting across travel lanes and stopping 50-feet before approaching a red light. Bedell drove a 1998 green Toyota with California license plates and listed an address of the Motel 6 on South Virginia Street. He gave the deputy a Nevada driver’s license. The hometown listed was unknown.


Inside Bedell’s car was a pink drug pipe with marijuana residue and three plastic containers with 2.6 ounches of marijuana, the report said.
“I could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle,” wrote Deputy John Schuette. “I explained to Bedell that I could smell marijuana and asked him to hand it to me. Bedell retrieved a pink colored metal pipe from his right pants pocket and gave it to me.”

Schuette wrote Bedell told him the last time he used marijuana was “a couple weeks ago,” and later revised his answer to “a couple hours ago.”

It is obvious to any sensible reader that this man was driven to the point of insanity -- even senseless murder because of this horrible drug. We need to stand up and push harsher laws against marijuana cultivators, sellers, and users.

This is what I am constantly warning my Junior High and High School students of. The dangers of the devil's weed!

Fortunately, we live in Iowa and all the evil stuff they have here is of poor quality and difficult to obtain. We tested their "weed" and it was mostly leaves. It will probably give them a headache before a buzz.

Fortunately, our police force and private security have driven up the prices to over $80 for a quarter bag of "schwag"

The "kind bud" is grown indoors and is even more difficult to obtain. Our junior narc we planted in the school took 6 months to even get them on tape doing the deal.

Now, our guy has been ruined! The only reason we got him on the wire was because he had forgotten he was wearing it.

Then you condone murder by stoning, have you ever seen people stoned to death... it is not a pleasant sight I assure you.

Every report on the news that I've heard has said that the shooter was a grower and all hopped up on the hemp. I'm going to go out on a wire and suggest that the shooting was caused by marijuana madness. This guy sounds like a loner and the type who lives in his mom's basement playing doom all day.
