MOZAMBIQUE'S Roman Catholic Archbishop has accused European condom manufacturers of deliberately infecting their products with HIV "in order to finish quickly the African people".

The Archbishop of Maputo, Francisco Chimoio, told the BBC that he had specific information about a plot to kill off Africans.

"I know that there are two countries in Europe … making condoms with the virus, on purpose," he alleged. He refused to name the countries.

He added: "They want to finish with the African people. This is the program. They want to colonise until up to now. If we are not careful we will finish in one century's time."
His views have prompted outrage from activists trying to combat AIDS and help sufferers. They described the statements as ridiculous. Medical specialists said it was impossible for the AIDS virus to live inside condoms for any length of time.

Marcella Mahanjane, a prominent Mozambican activist, told the BBC that there was no evidence to back the Archbishop's claims. "We've been using condoms for years now, and we still find them safe," she said.

The Archbishop's comments are likely to undermine the Mozambique Government's campaign to educate people aboutAIDS in a country where about one in six of the 19 million citizens are HIV-positive.

Health specialists say that views contrary to scientific orthodoxyare frequently seized upon by people looking for a reason not to use condoms.

thatArchbishop isn't the brightest candle in the chandelier, how do they keep the HIV alive in those condoms?? HIV viruses are very weak outside the body and only live a very short time (minutes) outside the human body. They are also very susceptible for UV rays which destroys there genetic code.

Man allegedly spread HIV through 'conversion' parties

A Melbourne man registered himself as a rottweiler in homage to his lover who is accused of deliberately infecting others with HIV, a court has been told.

Michael Neal allegedly organised orgies he called "conversion" parties to infect other people with the virus, the Victorian County Court heard today.

The court heard he bragged about infecting 75 people and told one of his partners he "gets off" on infecting people, prosecutor Mark Rochford told the Victorian County Court today.

Neal has pleaded not guilty to two charges of causing another person to be infected with HIV, 14 of attempting to cause another person to be infected with HIV and two of rape, 14 of reckless conduct endangering serious injury and one count each of administering a drug for the purpose of sexual penetration and procuring sexual penetration by fraud.

The court heard one of the men who allegedly contracted HIV from Neal was besotted with him.

He registered himself as a rottweiler with his local council and gave Neal the dog collar and tags as a tribute to their "master dog" relationship.

Mr Rochford said Neal failed to tell the victim of his HIV status and they had unprotected sex even though the victim objected.

When the victim was diagnosed with HIV, Neal denied responsibility.

Mr Rochford said Neal, 49, also arranged "conversion" parties to satisfy his own pleasure to have unprotected sex but some people were not aware they risked infection.

"It was the aim of Neal to infect people with HIV in order to have more people come into the group of HIV-infected people to engage in unprotected ... sex," Mr Rochford said.

Neal, of Coburg, is on trial on 34 charges including deliberately infecting two men with HIV and 14 of trying to infect others.

The court heard that after Neal was diagnosed in 2000, he was counselled by health authorities about his responsibilities to practise safe sex and advise his sexual partners of his HIV status.

But, Mr Rochford said, the evidence would show Neal ignored this advice and set out on a deliberate path to infect others and not disclose his HIV status.

"In two cases he's succeeded. In other attempts he tried but was unsuccessful. But he had a state of mind to do it and do it deliberately," he said.

Mr Rochford told jurors to brace themselves for some bizarre, graphic details and "out there" sexual practices.

The court heard another man Neal allegedly infected commented to Neal about a media report stating 108 people had been infected with HIV.

Mr Rochford said Neal replied: "I'm probably responsible for about 90 of those. The more people that have it, the quicker the cure will be on the shelf".

The trial continues.

When a man claims that he and God together can cure AIDS, crowds will gather. The sick man, Francis Manene, 41, is like many people in Africa: he cannot afford the drugs that would almost surely prolong his life, but he wants desperately to survive. Here in Kenya, Mr. Nduati and the Church of God's Power have made front-page news for their affordable, alternative path to hope: Mr. Nduati's claim that he has cured thousands of Kenyans of AIDS.

Word has spread, and if there is any skepticism about his claim, it is not found here, at a tin-roofed church just off a main traffic circle in Nairobi. In four years, the congregation has grown to what Mr. Nduati said was more than 12,500 people. All faiths are welcome.

Last Sunday, Mr. Manene, an electrician, took an overnight bus from several hundred miles upcountry to see Mr. Nduati. He left both elated and puzzled. He did not know why Mr. Nduati had told the congregation that Mr. Manene had only a month to live. ''The doctors have not told me that,'' he said.

But that small question mark did not prevent him from believing that Mr. Nduati had wiped the disease from his body. ''He is a servant of God, and God has been performing miracles from the beginning,'' Mr. Manene said. ''Even today he is offering another miracle.''

Mr. Nduati, a former child preacher with a light moustache who is still known as Miracle Boy, says he started healing at age 10. Six of his seven siblings are healers -- and he himself claims a direct line to God. ''I'm connected like the Internet,'' he said. ''It is a super connection.''
