The Feds got one right (Not) -

NEW ORLEANS - A federal judge says Tangipahoa Parish public schools must stop in-school Bible giveaways to students.
"Distribution of Bibles is a religious activity without a secular purpose" and amounts to school board promotion of Christianity, U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier ruled.
As requested by both sides, Barbier made a summary judgment based only on the written briefs - something judges may do only if the law is absolutely clear.
But attorney Christopher M. Moody said he thinks the Tangipahoa Parish School Board is likely to ask the 5th U.S. Court of Appeal to overturn Barbier's decision, though he hadn't yet consulted with the board. "We think there's a very good chance" of a reversal, he said.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana filed the suit for an anonymous family whose daughter said she felt pressured into taking a Bible even though she doesn't believe in God. The girl was called Jane Roe and her father John Roe out of fear of retaliation by schoolmates and neighbors, the ACLU has said.
"Jane Roe states that she accepted the Bible because if she did not, her classmates would have 'picked on' her," Barbier wrote. "She feared they would call her 'devil worshipper.'"
Marjorie R. Esman, executive director of the ACLU chapter, said, "A child shouldn't have to choose between her family's beliefs and the wishes of school administrators."

Didn't taking the bible make the student feel more comfortable around her peers? She's afraid that some kids are going to tease her for loving satan? I think she has more to worry about than them.

Christians in that parish love her enough to give her a copy of God's Word, and she shows her gratitude by persecuting them. Christ-haters should figure out what to do with the special privileges that they already have before demanding that an unelected liberal activist judge grant them new ones.
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. Taking it didn't make her feel comfortable - it just made her less likely to be teased for not being Christian.
There is no good reason for Bibles to be handed out at public schools. Religion is not part of the curriculum. Teach your kids your religion at home.
I was brought up Christian, and every December, the Gideons would come to our school and hand out pocket-sized New Testaments. Even when I was a Christian, I thought this was inappropriate.
And while taking one may be "voluntary," I know that at the school I went to, students were "strongly encouraged" by adults to take one, whether they wanted it or not.

Here you go with your gross generalizations again. Let's enumerate some reasons where it might be good to hand out bibles in public schools:
- Family can't afford a bible.
- Student doing report on 10 commandments.
- Students studying historical figures like Jesus or Salomon.
- Literature class.
- History class.
This is getting boring. Someone else can add some more.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Public libraries have copies - you cna check one out and it doesn't cost anything.- Student doing report on 10 commandments.
Wht would a student in a secular school be doing a report on the 10 Commandments? - Students studying historical figures like Jesus or Salomon.
Again, why would students in a secular school be doing reports on characters from the Bible? The Bible is seldom taught as literature in public schools, and if it were, the school would provide copies in class of the specific texts the students were studying, not hand out Bibles to the whole student body. The Bible is not an accurate source for a history class.
This is getting boring. Someone else can add some more.

The 10 Commandments are in the Bible (Exodus chapters 20 and 34; Deuteronomy chapter 5). The papists twisted the 10 Commandments by merging the 1st and 2nd Commandments (so that people would overlook that little bit about idolatry) and splitting the 10th Commandment so that there would still be 10. Nice try, Romanists, but we Biblically literate people see through your little ruse.

This is not the first time that this Godly parish has been savaged by the atheists of ACLU
Quote:
TANGIPAHOA PARISH BOARD OF EDUCATION et al. v. HERB FREILER et al. On April 19, 1994, the Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, Board of Education (Board) passed the following resolution:
“Whenever, in classes of elementary or high school, the scientific theory of evolution is to be presented, whether from textbook, workbook, pamphlet, other written material, or oral presentation the following statement shall be quoted immediately before the unit of study begins as a disclaimer from endorsement of such theory.
“It is hereby recognized by the Tangipahoa Parish Board of Education, that the lesson to be presented, regarding the origin of life and matter, is known as the Scientific Theory of Evolution and should be presented to inform students of the scientific concept and not intended to influence or dissuade the Biblical version of Creation or any other concept.
“It is further recognized by the Board of Education that it is the basic right and privilege of each student to form his/her own opinion or maintain beliefs taught by parents on this very important matter of the origin of life and matter. Students are urged to exercise critical thinking and gather all information possible and closely examine each alternative toward forming an opinion.” Pet. for Cert. 2. …
Jugement: - The petition for a writ of certiorari is denied.

My only reservation is tha the bibles might not have been KJV1611, and in banning their distribution, souls have been saved and are ripe for the Word of God via Landover

This is only more evidence that the disagreement between Christians and the so-called "freedom to believe in Satan" clause of the US Constitution IS TOTAL WAR!
Christian Conservatives -- that is, True Christians™ -- will never rest until the only viewpoint taught in schools is our viewpoint.
And if you disagree with that, you had best reject Christianity! That's RIGHT! I am saying it out front, and with no frills: Either Christianity is right, OR secularism is right. There is no middle ground.
Christian theology makes absolute claims: there is one God. He is the only God. There is one path to salvation: the Christian God. There is one Truth: the Truth of Jesus the Christ. There is no alternative.
The secularist laws of the United States tell a different story. They say other paths are possible, other belief systems -- or no belief system -- are equally valuable. These laws cannot be reconciled with Christianity. Not on the deepest, most fundamental level.
In the end, one system must yield.
That is the conflict before us. Thank you, DancesWithJoy, for bringing this topic up, and providing real-world context and detail. You have contributed actual content to the board. Kudos.

Dear Friends,
Why is it that liberals have to hide their supposed convictions behind psuedonyms like "Jane Roe"?
Christians die witnessing for Christ every day. The smallest risk of peer razzing and the atheist runs behind the skirts of the nearest judge she can find.

Thank you, OEJ, for once again putting so succinctly the Truth.
How can these two ever really be reconciled? Either God's Word is true, and He created the universe in 6 days, or the earth evolved over billions of years. They can't BOTH be true!
Either we have eternal souls that will live in Glory praising and servicing Jesus (or, like Allllllie's, burn in the torturous fires of God's Hell), or we have eternal souls that are reincarnated ad infinitum until we are perfected, as the Hindus believe. They can't BOTH be true!
Really, the ridiculous things people believe!

That girl attended a PUBLIC school. Religious doctrine should not be taught, advertised, hinted at, or pushed upon anyone attending public schools - which means people shouldn't be handing out pamphlets, Bibles, or even so much as a scrap of paper with "Jesus" written on it. The exception is when the student is taking a World Religions class, in which case, the teacher should not in anyway display favouritism towards, disdain for, or personal opinion about any religion they teach.

Silly A LLLLLLLLie. The PUBLIC school is paid for by the CHRISTIAN taxpayers! Therefore, they (through the school board they elect) decide the curriculum.
Who is someone from outside that CHRISTIAN community to tell them what to teach?
