Default Day 25. Exodus 25-27 - 09-30-2007, 03:51 PM

Exodus 25-27

Today, God tells Moses to start building:
  • The Ark of the Covenant
  • The Mercy Seat
  • The Tabernacle
  • The Altar
  • Instruments in the Tabernacle

Exodus 25

2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering: of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.

God asks for gold, silver, brass, blue, purple, scarlet, linen, goat's hair, rams and badgers skins, oil, onyx and stones.

This probably wasn't too much of a sacrifice, as it was probably all the stuff that the Hebrews borrowed from the people of Egypt.

10 And they shall make an ark of shittim wood: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

Cover it in Gold!

16 And thou shalt put into the ark the testimony which I shall give thee.

That's the second time, we are told God will provide the Testimony. This time, not capitalized though.

17 And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold: two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof.

The mercy seat is more than just the covering for the ark, it's also God's comfy chair.

22 And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.

On each side of the seat are cherubim. Don't think of them as the cute little cupid angels, Cherubim are fierce killers!

God also wants a coffee table, probably to put his feet up on.

29 And thou shalt make the dishes thereof, and spoons thereof, and covers thereof, and bowls thereof, to cover withal: of pure gold shalt thou make them.

30 And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me alway.

Obviously the showbread is unleavened.

God also wants some candlesticks, of course, also, made of gold.

Exodus 26.

1 Moreover thou shalt make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet: with cherubims of cunning work shalt thou make them.

It's more of a TENTbernacle. Not the temple, that is made for Him later.

33 And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy.

This is important a little later.

Exodus 27.

1 And thou shalt make an altar of shittim wood, five cubits long, and five cubits broad; the altar shall be foursquare: and the height thereof shall be three cubits.

Lemme guess, cover it in gold.

2 And thou shalt make the horns of it upon the four corners thereof: his horns shall be of the same: and thou shalt overlay it with brass.

What, you are kidding right, cover it in brass? Are we out of gold (probably not)

19 All the vessels of the tabernacle in all the service thereof, and all the pins thereof, and all the pins of the court, shall be of brass.

Brass stuff in the tabernacle, but GOLD stuff on the table.

21 In the tabernacle of the congregation without the vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the LORD: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.

So what have we learned?

1. God's stuff in the temple is made of gold. Things that aren't for God are brass.

2. God is an excellent carpenter, He drew up the plans for His Tabernacle, Ark, Mercy Seat, table, candlesticks and all kinds of other things, it's no wonder Jesus became a carpenter. He (Jesus) wasn't following in Joseph's steps, He (Jesus) was following in Jehovah's steps.
