In search of pie -
10-29-2010, 12:11 AM
Ladies, maybe you can help me with this.
Widow Helen tells me that, with Sister Phebe's help, she plans to open a pie shop in Freehold. Won't that be delightful!
But she wants something specific for her sign, and neither she nor I can find any examples to show the signmaker. She wants everyone from miles around to see "Widow Helen's Pie", up on top of a big black pole.
Yes, like those 1950s diners . . . a big glowing fiberglass(? plastic?) pie.
She says if the local codes won't allow it, she will have some made as chandeliers instead and hang them inside. Or maybe she'll do both.
Anyway, when I look, the closest I can find is things like this:
Can any of you ladies help me find the perfect pie for Helen?
Bible boring? Nonsense!

Rev. M. Rodimer I am not sure of this idea. How do other the ladies feel about their men buying pie from another women.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth
Proverbs 19:25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
Ezekiel 16:14 And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.
Proverbs 6:25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
Genesis 24:16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
Song of Solomon 1:15 Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes.

Very true, I would be heartbroken to find out Seth was eating pie while mine was cooling at home. Although I'm sure he does get some when he's on the road. But that's a secret that stays on the road.
That being said, I found this one, but perhaps it's a little to "Victorian" for her taste.

Lisa that is a very good concern, but don't forget about all the single men living in Freehold who don't have a wife to give them pie. On the one hand these men shouldn't have to go pie-less, but on the other hand no man wants his single friends always coming over to eat his wife's pies. I think the pie-shop is a great idea.
EDIT: Also Rev. Rodimer, have you considered a smaller, white pole to put the "Widow Helen's Pie" on? I think that would be more aesthetically pleasing.

That is truly a lovely pie, Sister BIG! But she was thinking more of this form:
Only a pie, and 3-dimensional, like this burger (without the "big boy" homosexual holding it up whilst leering at that man's private region):
Bible boring? Nonsense!

Hmm... maybe something like this?
Or this?
This one is a bit more modern looking

Those are some lovely pies, Sister Annie! But she's after the 3-dimensional light-up sort.
You KNOW how Helen is about getting her way.

Yes, wasn't she the one who was arrested last year for harassment? Something about wandering the street of Freehold in a house coat and offering men free pie if they would only come back to her house and eat it. Officer Richards probably knows better but I always get the felling she is talking about something else when I have dealt with Helen.

Nope. She's only been there for about a month, and is staying with and assisting Phebe Carlyle. I'm still out in the guest house, at a proper 1/4 mile distance from the main house.
You may be thinking of Mrs. Johnson.
While Helen does generously give her pie away from time to time, Sister Phebe has convinced her that it is so good that she should be charging for it. I suggest you get a taste of Widow Helen's pie while it is still free, Brother! I believe there are a couple left of her "Jimmy D" batch of meat pies. (I think she may have bought store-bought sausage for those, hence the name.)
If Helen has none available, I do have some left in the fridge here. And beer. Nothing like washing down a mouthful of hot meat with a good cold beer, eh?

While I'm sure Sister Sarah Palin can dish out a mean beaver pie -- or moose pie, or even elk cannoli -- I somehow don't think a chalkboard would be visible from very far, suspended at the top of a pole and lit up from within.

How about a replica of this statue
Holding this pie up in the air?
1 Chronicles 16:15
Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations ... an everlasting covenant.
Proverbs 30:5,6: Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Oh once a reputation is established for a hot moist beaver pie that is easily obtainable I am sure you would have no shortage of keen customers ready to lap it all up.

Sometimes I just don't understand men at all. Why would you eat one of these? Wouldn't the hair get stuck in your teeth?

There was a time that a man would eat the beaver with the hair, in fact men would relish the chance to have a go at a really hair beaver, but we live in modern times, these days beaver is consumed sans hair in the vast majority of cases, I believe we have the Brazilians to thank for this trend.

Well I have to say even a shaved beaver sounds positively revolting to me. Why can't you just enjoy normal pies Jo Freddie, like apple and blueberry?
Why mess up pies by adding rodents into the mix?

Widow Helen is distraught. She still has no suitable pie photo to demonstrate to the sign maker what she wants -- some sort of gigantic acrylic or fiberglass light-up pie that she can put on a big black pole outside her pie shop.
She may have to do without.
