Default Day 179. Psalms 121-125 - 09-09-2009, 04:27 PM

Psalms 121-125

Psalm 121

1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

That's kind of odd;

2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

If I remember correctly (and I do) the hills were places where the other gods lived.

Deuteronomy 12:2 Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree:

1 Kings 20:23 And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, Their gods are gods of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

2 Chronicles 28:4 He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

The last verse was about Ahaz, doing bad in the sight of the LORD for Baalim.

But our God is all powerful, if He wants to move into the hills, that's just his prerogative.

7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

8 The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

Going out, and coming in, refers to the most dangerous part of daily life. That's when you leave the safety of the city walls (and only bad people live outside the city walls). This would be when your on your way to work, carrying your tools, an easy time to be robbed. It's also when you come back after your work, carrying your goods, and all your tools, again, very vulnerable. The city gates mark the spot where you are no longer protected by the guards. This is a prayer for a good days work; all summed up in "preserve thy going out and thy coming in".

Psalm 122

1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

Horray, it's Sunday, let's go to church!

2 Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.

3 Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together:

Inside the gates is safety, remember?

6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

Whenever you wonder why we support Israel, this is the verse you need to remember. Psalm 122:6. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Remember Psalm 122:6. That's why we support Israel. Why does the U.S. support Israel? Psalm 122:6. (that and Israel supposedly has to be a nation before Jesus will come back, and kill 2/3 of the Jews) But MOSTLY Psalm 122:6.

Psalm 123

1 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

Apparently God has left the hills and moved back up into the heavens. Praise his nomadic nature!

3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

Psalm 124

1 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;

2 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

I'm a rooster boy!

3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

Remember, quick means alive.

6 Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

First, we'd be swallowed alive, (the verse in between deal with being drowned), then drowned, then eaten!

8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

There was no big bang! God made it!

Psalm 125

1 They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.

What a good test of faith. If you trust in the LORD, you won't be moved. If you are moved, you obviously don't trust in the LORD.

4 Do good, O LORD, unto those that be good, and to them that are upright in their hearts.

Well, that's a little presumptuous isn't it? That's said under the assumption that it is the author who is doing good.

5 As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.

Kind of reminds me of the current situation in the middle east now. Israel (kindof) is at peace, and Muslims are blowing themselves up.

PRAISE JESUS!!!

So what have we learned today?

1. God lives in the hills... or in heaven.

2. Psalm 122:6, why we support Israel.

3. Going out, and Coming in is the most dangerous part of the day.

Judges 9:21 And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.
