What is a commandment without the threat of punishment? This is the WHOLE REASON Jesus came to us. I'll explain except I don't think the demon that is obviously living in you will let you hear the words of GOD's TRUTH:
The Old Testament doesn't go into a lot of detail about Hell. Those sissy lie-beral Christians that read the NIV even claim that the Old Testament doesn't even MENTION Hell. They claim that the word "Sheol" is properly translated into "grave" and not into "Hell" as it is in the KJV1611. The problem with this is that Sheol is a he-brew word and can not be trusted. That is why the Bible was translated into American.
That siad, God's focus in the OT is on the every-day punishments you see listed in the chart. These all have to do with physical punishment of sinners while they are still alive...usually by ending their lives. But for some people (read: "most of humanity") the threat of genocide or being kept as a sex slave and THEN being killed was not enough of a threat to make them walk the straight and narrow line. They figured that they could just do what they want, take the risk and if they die, they die and that's it.
That is why God sent Baby Jesus to us to tell us about a new punishment for us: Hell. Now with a Jesus-Backed translation of "Hell," God will follow sinners PAST THE GRAVE and torment them for all eternity. This is why the New Testament is SO important. It PROVES that God is trying to find the absolute worst punishment for sinners that there ever could be. He wasn't satisfied with killing people and having them raped, he wanted to torture them in lakes of fire for all time. And that is what Jesus, and therefore all of CHRISTianity, is all about.
So to sum it up.
1) God USED to focus on punishing people in this world ONLY (the ways listed in the chart.)
2) People kept sinning.
3) God sent Jesus to us to tell us that he was upping the punishment from ending your life to torturing you in the worst way imaginable for all of time. This is Jesus's message, make no mistake about it.
4) So NOW you risk BOTH the Old Testament punishments listed in the chart AS WELL as a certainty of eternal torture.
Now tell me again why we should not warn everyone we love and all of humanity about this message from Jesus?

I'm sure I speak for most of us non-religious people when I say we don't need ten commandments or any other ancient text to follow, we simply follow the golden rule: treat others as you would like them to treat you. Empathy plays a large part in this, threatening people with genocide does not.
Why choose to follow the Bible?
Why do you think God wrote it?

I follow it because, as you say, God wrote it. I don't know why God wrote it, but then again, I don't know why he hates Fags. He just does. Why can't you simply read the text of the Bible for yourself and see that, despite what the "liberal" Christians want you to believe about their religion, I am just saying what the Bible says?

The golden rule is addressed in the Bible: Matthew 7:12
12Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
You must be about 14 because you seem to think that you know everything about the world and don't need any help navigating your way thru life.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Yeah I'm 14, sure, and I'm the one who believes Bible stories are all true !
The point is I DON'T KNOW everything, nobody does, least of all religious zealots.

May I suggest buying a Bible, or if you can't afford one, there are many on-line for free.
But, the best is our very own "Bible in a Year"

Or better yet, read this thread from the start!
Matthew:
5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled
10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Obviously it isn't enforced in the secular Western world. The Old Testament tells us how to behave under Biblical Rule, whereas the New Testament was written under the auspices of the Roman empire and tells us how we need to behave in a secular society
The Bible explicitly orders us to follow secular laws:
Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Romans 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
Romans 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
Romans 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Romans 13:5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
Romans 13:6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
Romans 13:7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
Remember that your vote may help to abolish secularism and reintroduce Biblical Rule in our society.
1st Corinthians 15:16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
1st Corinthians 15:17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
1st Corinthians 15:18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

OK, that's a very wise choice. Let's take this one as an example. The full text goes:
Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
People habitually forget the part that I highlighted: " that thy days may be long". Or in plain English: Obey your parents if you want to live.
Let me quote from Exodus chapter 21, i.e. the chapter immediately following the Ten Commandments in the Bible:
Exodus 21:15 And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.
[. . .]
Exodus 21:17 21:17:And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.
One day I may write a special sermon over the fifth commandment alone, but I think this will suffice for now.

Well said, Brother. I do have a question, though. I seem to recall form my Retributional Theology class that things like Hurricane Katrina, 9/11, and the Chinamen Tsunami are hints of how the genocide punishment will be enforced if America and other countries keep sliding towards Satan's ways.
For example, I don't normally abide that liberal God mocker, Jerry Falwell, but I believe he and Patsy Robinson were on to something when the said that 9/11 was an act of God because America had put up with the homersexual deathstyle and the abortionists.

Precisely. As long as we live in a secular society, we have to follow the secular laws and leave the killings to Jesus:
Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Don't hesitate to put your trust in Jesus. As clearly evidenced by 9/11, tsunamis, floods and hurricanes, He's doing a Godly job of punishing the sinners and their families. What a friend we have in Jesus.

You think that JHWH and Moses don't know what a commandment looks like? The next verse following says:"And the Lord said unto Moses, "Write thou these words; for I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel."

Evening Mr Prune Danish,
I would like to thank you for your update of the ten commandments, I think that God would be very happy with your new revised version. Just a question about the first commandment. If somebody worships another God and, rather understandably, his entire town is brutally massacred ... well... this bit is quite interesting...
In some cases you can keep the girls alive for raping.
When the Christians are in control, this will be applied to the letter, I presume. So, who would be doing the killing and who would be doing the raping? I presume you would be raping many of the little girls yourself? Or would we draw lots to see who is entitled to that privilige?
I would appreciate it if you answered my question seriously, rather than removing my question, because I am genuinely interested in what you have to say. It would be easy to block my opinion but real power will come from a sincere response,
Thanks
Andrew
P.S. I very much enjoy this depiction of what I presume to be aggressive extremist muslims, because you preach peace and understanding, nothing like massacre and rape if someone doesn't believe in your hokum

You see, it's not what we have to say. It's what God has to say. We don't write the rules, we just live them to the letter.
Matthew:

Thanks for responding.
However, I understand that, but it seems strange that Mr Prune Danish is happy to swap numbers 6 and 7 around? I see that he explained his reasoning, but it doesn't add up. He is happy to swap rules around, but not happy to relax a rule for massacring entire villages and raping girls. And like I asked, who is appointed to perform the raping, this is what I would like to know.
Also if you were an innocent Godfearing inhabitant of the village in which a man has been found to have broken the first commandment, would you accept death without a struggle, as a devout Christian, and understand the punishment? Tell your daughters to quietly accept rape before a long and torturous death?
Thanks
Andrew

Why are you so fixated on raping? Did you not read the post? The verses are given to help you.
If I am dead, how would I tell my daughters anything?
Why would a live in a village with sinners?

You mean to say there is nobody in your town or village that is a non-believer or worships other Gods? How can you know the faith of everybody in your town.
I fixate on the raping aspect because it is quite shocking. I am not a believer personally, and it is my belief that the bible was made up by man. I cannot see how a just God would add that bit in there, and it is, to me, rather an excuse for a man to rape (often committing adultery) and to kill, without officially sinning.
I don't see why man takes it upon himself to judge and do God's will. If the guilty persons are going to suffer in eternal damnation, is that not enough?
I respect other people's beliefs but I don't agree with enforcing your own beliefs and judgements on other people which all these crazy punishments are for. I don't believe in God, I love football, you could say I worship my team, I worship david beckham. Does that mean that if it were more plausible, you would find me and kill me, as well as murdering my entire town, and raping all the girls!?
I stopped believing in God around the same time as I stopped believing in Santa and the tooth fairy. However, if he was there, its mad to presume the bible actually comes from him, and that he created us to mutilate eachother if we don't all believe in the same version of him. You cannot believe that, if god exists, he wants you to do these things.
I am sorry to be so disrespectful, because it makes me a bit like you guys, because now I am enforcing my beliefs on you. So please, continue to go about thinking that stuff, but I hope that if the day were to come, where you lot had some sort of power, that you would decide not to go through with it.

Your main misconception is that we can do these things. We can't because secular law denies us the chance to do what God tells us. Jesus commanded us that. But we are able to write letters to our officals urging them to change the constitution a Biblical one!
