Goth is a deplorable type of heathen culture that glorifies everything that is vile and unholy. The dictionary defines "Goth" as: A crude uncouth ill-bred person lacking culture or refinement. This pretty much sums up the Goth culture today. Goth glorifies things that are sick, nasty, improper, freakish, and downright demonic...

The Goth culture includes Emos/ punks/ Wiccan witches/ self-abusers/ thrashers/ grungers/ heavy metallers, et cetera. This includes the Marilyn Manson, AC/DC, Smashing Pumpkins, Van Halen and Ozzy Osbourne crowd as well.

Goth causes teenage girls to become whores, depresses kids to the point of cutting themselves, and turns otherwise normal kids into Columbine shooters. The Goth culture is obsessed with death and the darker side of life, which is clearly evidenced in Goth music. Goth is of the Devil.

Goth in itself is a mental illness, a sickness of the soul, mainly affecting teenagers in the same way as schizophrenia would, although to a greater extent. Its symptoms range from isolation and negativity to aggression and hate for humanity, depression, violent outbursts, low self esteem, self-loathing, self-harming and suicide. Many Goths turn to a life of crime to feed their addiction to drugs, sadism, violence and perversion.

There is a theme running through all these different types of gothic groups, and a common fashion and dress that all tribes of Goth wear. The clothing is usually dark and sinister looking, sometimes called the 'gothic uniform.' Goth women often wear black lip stick and paint their eyes so dark with mascara that they look like vampires. Goths are all obsessed with death and despair, with terror and violence, and most Goths use drugs as a form of everyday life. Some abuse their children, perform Satanic rituals, and drink human blood...

The Dangers of Rock Music

...Rock music attacks the nervous system, affecting one's emotional state. Is it any wonder why Americans, now more than ever before, are blowing-up in anger, flying off the handle, committing suicide, and losing their minds?

Goth is particularly dangerous because the lyrics to the music often glamorize killing, brutality, sadism, masochism, pedophilia, torture, freakism, and all sorts of heathendom. The music is often characterized by relentless yelling and screaming, freakish embellishments of the voice, evil sounding backgrounds, etc. There just a bunch of sickos. Magician, Criss Angel, has made millions of dollars with his "Mind Freak" series, and he definitely fits in well with the Goth freak culture. Criss Angel's theme song is characterized by his own voice screaming "mind freak" repeatedly at the top of his lungs. This is Satanic. We read in the Bible in Philippians 2:5, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus." God doesn't want us to walk around singing "mind freak" (which a person cannot help but hear repeatedly in their memory after watching one of Criss Angel's shows). Satan is the freak of freaks. Jesus called Satan the father of all liars (John 8:44).

It is not difficult to let Lucifer into your home (1st Peter 5:8). The Apostle Paul prophesied in 2nd Timothy 3:6 of the future time when lustful men would creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lust. From the witchcraft of Sabrina, to the lewdness of Hugh Hefner; from the whores of Desperate Housewives, to the demonic New Age indoctrination of Oprah Winfrey; from the homosexuality of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, to the lasciviousness of nearly every prime time TV program―Americans have opened the door wide for Satan to creep right into our homes...

First of all, most Goths do not glorify things that are sick, nasty, improper, freakish, and downright demonic..., Most Goths are just normal people who go to school/work just like everybody else. Sure, there is a minority who does but if you look towards the society today you see thatthe same things happen there too.


Also, you claim that The Goth culture includes Emos/ punks/ Wiccan witches/ self-abusers/ thrashers/ grungers/ heavy metallers, et cetera. This includes the Marilyn Manson, AC/DC, Smashing Pumpkins, Van Halen and Ozzy Osbourne crowd as well. This however is not correct, all those groups you call Goth are actually subcultures on there own and have very little to do with each other. Some are even the extreme opposite of Goth. Punk for instance was the Reason why Goth emerged, Goths wanted to take a distance of the crude punk and thus created their own subculture. Things like Thrasers, Grungers, Emo's and Metalheads aren't even related to Goth as they were born out of way different backgrounds than Goth.


As for the fashion I can say that dark colors are indeed prevailing in the scene but this is not a must, there isn't a "uniform", everyone dresses as he/she feels like. This is proved by the recent popularity of CyberGothic where light colors like white and even pink are worn. The Goth scene isn't straight forward, you don't have one group but you have several sub-genres in the scene. Every one of these subgroups have a certain style and it's very difficult for an outsider to recognize who belongs to which sub-genre.

Your claim that Goths abuse children, perform satanic stuff, take drugs, turn to a life of crime,etc. are again the typical nonsense of stereotypes. Sure, some might do this stuff but that's not different than the society where we life in today, kids have been abused before the Goth scene existed, as has satanic rituals, crime etc.

The drugs claim is very unrealistic. I'm not gonna say there isn't drugs in the scene but it's low compared to the Goa or even Techno/Trance scenes and it's certainly as omnipresent as in those scenes.

And Goth music, that is a subject that is so diverse that you might as well write a whole book about it, there are so many different bands that even I encounter bands I never heard of before, and I'm 15 years into the Gothscene don't you mind. And yes indeed, there are Satanic bands, I'm aware of that but that doesn't mean every Goth likes them, some will others won't. The number of satanic bands in the Gothscene is low, they are a real minority, certainly today as the scene more and more leans towards the pure electronic cyberelectro and Industrial where lyrics are almost non-existing.

The only way to really know the Gothscene is to go out in it, not by reading some findings of people who aren't even remotely informed about it to begin with. The only reason why the media blows it up is because they want to shock the people and sell a lot magazines or newspapers, nothing more.

It should have been "Not omnipresent" but I couldn't edit my post. And sorry, I never even touched drugs, I don't drink and smoke either so accusing me of being a drugs users is absurd. You are always bashing on other countries while your precious America is in fact the largest drugs consuming countries of the world (per capita of course), even for the legal ones. In all those years I'm in the Goth scene I never encountered anyone who tried to sell me dope on a Goth party, not once. But don't understand me wrong, I'm not claiming there isn't any drugs going around but in present day that is hardly a surprise, drugs are everywhere, from schools to offices. That's the sad reality, you can't lay all the problems in one group.

The use of drugs has nothing to do with one group anymore, it so widespread in all layers of society that it's almost out of control. America puts a lot of money in their war on drugs but it hardly yields result because the only take on those who supply it but not the root of the problem. Not that America is the only one who uses this strategy, many countries use it with equally little result to show.

I'm not saying that all is well in the Gothsubculture, there are some very disturbed people running around but this is not because they are Goth, they would have been disturbed too if Goth didn't exist. You can't blame everything on one group, everybody has to decide for themselves what path he takes and this is also true for Goths. It's your own choice to be satanist, Wiccan, do drugs, be gay, be fetishistic,... Whatever someone claims, you aren't born a satanist, gay or drug-user, it's something you learn, think about it and decide yourself whether you want to pursue that path. I am shocked at how little you people (excluding those who made excellent arguments for the subculture) know about what is Goth. A Goth person is just like you with a job and a loving family, our only difference is our perspective in life. Why can't you see beauty in the strange? It's there. Being goth has nothing to do with drugs or worshiping Satan. It is about finding beauty where it is not usually found, because people don't look. It is a deep subculture with so much diversity and different types in it. The gothic subculture first started out as an alternative style of music that originated from punk. Gothic music can range from heavy metal to a soft, beautiful, romantic ballad. Goths aren't depressed, suicidal, mentaly insane, or anything else you have been led to believe. The reason you most likely have this mindset is because you've never acually met a true goth who acually understands the subculture. I feel sorry for you meeting for all of those posers. Geting into the goth scene has acually helped my life in many ways. Before I got into the subculture I was really depressed, cut myself, and thought about suicide almost every day. I looked just like any normal kid that you wouldn't look at twice walking down the road, but inside I was so torn up and felt completely hopeless. My life finally got turned around when I discovered the most amazing music I had ever heard. The music was so beautiful and the lyrics so touching that I realized that I didn't have to be so sad when there was so much out there for me to enjoy. As I started to listen to gothic music and develop an alternative style in clothes, I became less and less depressed. Now, I feel so free and happy. I don't understand how you can call something so wonderful evil. I'm Christian, and I'm gothic. Can't the two coexist together? This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible, "Let he who has no sin cast the first stone." I think you people can learn a lot from it.

I would try and make the case that Goth is as stereotypical as most of you, and OP (original poster), would like to make it seem...but you won't listen to that. Being right even when you're wrong its a pretty major thing about people in today's culture that sticks in my craw, but hey, people are people I guess. Anyway, just for the sake of argument, I'll entertain this idea and try explain this subculture better even for the sated mind.

Goth's don't this to strive for attention. Hell, if that wasn't already evident, I don't know what is, if you're only judging by appearances. We view the world through the same perspective that you all used to, but threw overboard when religion found out how much money and capital it can generate.

We look at the world without the fear of being judged, whether it be by you, by God, by anyone or anything merely because of the way dress. We only care that ALL human beings are judged by their deeds, not by their fashion choices. Its a state of mind, not a cult. Its a style of music, not a religion. For the passive observer its something difficult to describe and completely understand at first yes, but hey we all know that there's a difference between this and reality and the major consensus is that we don't see or even know that difference. BS. We know it. Another important point to make is that we don't go and push our ideas on other people like you do. We don't burn everything that we don't understand. We don't kill those that do not follow in our footsteps, dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's along the way. We enjoy the simpler pleasures in life. The bounties of nature, the blessings of it that God gave this world, and don't interfere with anyone that doesn't want to be a goth, or follow in our foot steps.

In essence, we're everything that your religion preaches, but doesn't ever do.

There are Christian metal bands who are amazing and preach about the darkness this world has been overcome and how God is the only one that can save us.

I'm sad to say goths are by far the most ignorant and scarily single minded people that I have ever had the misfortune into coming into contact with. Firstly, when I look up the word goth into my dictionary I get something very different from your well-informed guided google definition. it derives from the architecture. Second of all, when early goth (music) started in England it is very different from what it is today, so really goth is just a demonic figure head. You people are so hooked on stereotypes!! My goodness i've never known anything like it. For a start, the photos you used. Betty Curse (the first one, because i doubt you had any idea who she was) may dress gothic, yes, but her music (yes, she's a singer! who knew?) is actually as far from demonic and "gothic" as you could imagine. In fact, there are many different modern pop groups today that are much more prevocative than her! Her music does have a rock sound to it, but so what? So does the Jonas Brothers, and I doubt God's going to damn them to hell. And.. Emma Watson? REALLY? OMG SHE WEARS BLACK, OMG SHE HAS BLACK MAKEUP, SHE'S THE DEVIL!!! Yeah, I'm totally sure her CHRISTIAN beliefs prove your point there completely.

Ok, first of all, 9 times out of 10, kids who have problems in their life, for example family, friends, traumas, or PRESSURING RELIGIONS ON PEOPLE BY FRIENDS AND FAMILY, including many other things, cause people to self harm. THIS, is what usually brings them TO the gothic culture. But it doesn't HAVE to! I know many people who self harm, but they're in no way related to the gothic culture. They don't have to be linked. And lastly, whores? Really? Ok, look on TV, look at some Jeremy Kyle shows or whatever you have in America. Look at the girls who are getting pregnant at 13, 14, 15 years old. Please, tell me, which ones of those look like goths to you. I bet hardly any of them. So, I have no idea WHERE you're getting your information from, and I'd love to know where. SERIOUSLY, you actually KNOW what schizophrenia is?? Schizophrenia is a mental disorder in which the sufferer gets hallucinations, delusions, muddled thoughts based upon these hallucinations, and severe changes in behavior. They sometimes have multiple personalities and even believe there is another person living inside them. This can be a very, very scary experience for the person. HOW THE piffle, can you link that to being Goth? And how DARE you to say it is even at a GREATER EXTENT? Not only is that a misconstrued idea, but that's just absolutely out of order for you to even THINK of relating the two. That is really, truly heartless. Disgraceful.

For me, heavy metal makes me happy, classical makes me happy and relaxed, and Hannah Montana makes me hyper and girly. I know for my mum though, metal music makes her depressed, 70s music makes her nostalgic, classical makes her annoyed and Norah Jones makes her wanna sing along. See, music effects people in different ways. That's why there are so many different types of music - people feel connected to completely different things to each other. So yes actually, you're right! It DOES effect their emotional state. And also, you say ROCK music. Did you know there are SO, SO MANY different types of Rock music? Why don't you try out a band called Skillet - an awesome rock band, and did you know they're also a Christian band, and that ALL their songs have Christian messages behind them?

Just lastly in this section, I really can't believe you're calling Sabrina the Teenage Witch "satanic" and "gothic". Now THAT really is pathetic. It's a KIDS SHOW. What, do you really believe some 6 year old is going to watch that program and decide "I want to be like her! She does so much awesome stuff!" and 5 minutes later start worshiping Satan? I don't think so. If you say something as innocent as that can change someone, ever thought that someone could read the Bible, read about Satan and his power and decide they would prefer to worship him? But now, I just want to mention myself, and my friends. I have been called Goth SO many times. Which to be honest with you, on the whole, I guess it could be true, if you really, REALLY had to label me. But really? I'm just being myself. Yes, I do wear black as my main colour of clothing. I wear skulls, band t-shirts, and apparel relating to films such as Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. I listen to heavy metal bands, death metal, black metal, progressive rock, and many others that are related, and bands such as Lamb of God, Bullet for my Valentine, Escape the Fate, and Deals Death. I love the idea of magic, wizards, and wicca, and also the celtic culture. I love zombies, games and movies, and I can't leave my room without black eyeliner, or at least eyeshadow, around my eyes. I'm also extremely interested in the paranormal (eg. ghosts and spirits), and watch shows like Most Haunted and Ghost Whisperer.

BUT WAIT, before you condemn me to hell? That's not the full story.

I'm also a happy, excitable 16 year old - I'm extremely creative, and imaginative. I'm friendly, and have many friends, even people who seem completely different to me. I'm known for my sense of humor and how I can giggle and laugh at anything and everything. I'm always smiling. Yes, I wear a lot of black, but I'm also known for my thigh-high rainbow striped socks, and my "panda hat" - a hat, that has a panda face on the top. I am trustworthy, and never, EVER break a promise. I will comfort anyone, whether I like them or not. I may be interested in magic, and wicca, but more in the "Charmed" and "Harry Potter" sense. I have never considered worshiping Satan, and I don't ever plan to. I also love the idea of celtic culture, but more because I LOVE folklore, fairies, elves, unicorns, dragons, and that sort of idea. I also love the Japan and Anime culture - I listen to Japanese rock and pop music, and love rainbows, bunnies, kitties, Pokémon, Hello Kitty, and generally anything cute and fluffy!! I'm also a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh, and infact anything Disney, including Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, Phineas and Ferb, Tinkerbell, and all things like that! I even love shows like Lazytown, and in fact, I'm listening to the soundtrack right now! I said I liked Metal bands, but ya know, I listen to pretty much EVERYTHING. This includes Hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, S Club 7, Owl City, and SO many others. I also find peace in the classical piano likes of Ludivico Einaudi, and LOVE the soundtrack to the French film Amelié of Montmartre. I also do well at school, and am pretty much a straight-A student. I love Maths, and English, including Shakespeare.
AND LASTLY, GUESS WHAT? I'M CHRISTIAN! YEAH, THATS RIGHT. I believe in so many Christian teachings and beliefs. My family is actually part of the "Church of Jesus Christ if Latter-Day Saints" church (LDS/Mormon), and so am I! I believe very strongly in their teachings like: no alcohol, no drugs, no smoking, no sex before marriage, and so many others.

Also, my friends - I have the most amazing boyfriend for a start, who yes, has many interests which may be considered "goth", like the music, films, paranormal, and many other things, but that doesn't mean he's in any way evil. He's actually a catholic - and he has the same morals and values as I do, including no sex before marriage, and no alcohol or drugs or smoking. He is the sweetest, kindest, most considerate guy you have ever met. He is COMPLETELY different to other guys. He loves computers, and one day hopes to become a game coder. He is also amazing at game sprites (graphics) and "pixel art". And just like me, he's always smiling and laughing at things. He is truly amazing, and an incredibly strong soul. He is everything to me and I love him with all my heart.
I have many other friends who are JUST LIKE ME - just a mix of everything. I actually don't know ANYONE whatsoever so fits your stereotypical idea of "goth".
All I'm saying is that, Christ taught us to treat everyone with respect, to "treat others as we would want to be treated", and to accept people for who they are. There is nowhere where it says He wants us to discriminate against other groups of people, especially without having a proper knowledge in the first place. I can understand how religions must hate Goths - but they only seem to see the stereotype. A stereotype is an idea, and actually hardly ANYONE is like that. Yes, you WILL get the fair few satanic goths, but it's in no way fair that you say everyone who wears black is ultimately satanic.
I AM UNIQUE. I AM MYSELF. I am religious, and I have different interests to other people. Is that really SUCH a problem? If everyone in life was the same, life would be so boring. We could never find love, or true friends, because everyone would be the same - there would be no enemies, no friends, no hate, no love. WE NEED difference in society.
And lastly, I don't see how it's actually your right to condemn a group of people simply because you're religious? SO WHAT if you don't believe in the same stuff? That doesn't mean their bad people. I don't think you're a bad people simply because you hate goths - I just think you're ever so prejudice about the subject. And THAT'S what I don't like. That's why I'm here today. You need to stop stereotyping, and open your eyes to the real world. The real world is full of PEOPLE. Just like you.
