Default Day 267. Amos 4-6 - 01-27-2011, 09:26 PM

Amos 4-6

Amos 4

1 Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.

If you remember back to Numbers 21:33-35, Bashan was where the Hebrews destroyed Og.

2 The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.

Taken away with hooks and rings through the nose is exactly what the Babylonians did to the Northern Kingdom.

4 Come to Bethel, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:

5 And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

God is actually being sarcastic here. He says, "go ahead and do your sinning in Bethel. do what you like, I don't really care".

Sacrifices with leaven, that's not a bread for God. He only ate unleavened bread.

9 I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured them: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

Palmerworms are caterpillars. God sent a plague of caterpillars in the hopes that the people would return to him and ask him for help, but they didn't do it.

11 I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

God speaks about himself in the third person here.

12 Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

When God says "prepare to meet thy God" you know you are screwed.

Amos 5

1 Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.

I think every member of the Rapture Ready forums should spend considerable time meditating on Amos 5.

3 For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.

Amos says that a tenth of the people will be left behind, 90% will be taken away. That's not many.

4 For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:

5 But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to nought.

Bethel was one of the places where the Israelites worshipped Baal. Apparently Gilgal and Beersheba also were places of worship of not God.

8 Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:

The seven stars are the Pleiades.

There's Orion again. The last time he was mentioned was in Job. I still find it odd that the word ORION was used in the bible. I'd assume that the actual hebrew word would have been "the giant" and not Orion.

One of the brightest stars in the sky is a member of Orion. That on is Betelgeuse. Betelgeuse gets it's name from the Arabic "al jauza" meaning the "central one". Al Jauza was one of the names for the constellation Orion. In verse 5, we saw Amos mention Bethel. Combine Bethel with the arabic word and you get Beth-al-jauza, Betelgeuse. Bethel is believed to have been a brother of the gods El and Dagon. In the bible, El is sometimes used to describe the actual God, and sometimes for some other god, like Baal or Moloch.

So we've got Amos saying to stay away from Bethel. He also says that our God is the one that made Orion, and Orion is pretty much the god El (bethel).

Even more anecdotal, Og is from Bashan. Og was a giant. Traditionally he is believed to have been 3000 years old when he died. Some folks believe he lived through Noah's flood. He either grabbed hold of the ark, or rode it out on top, or was kept as a creature in the ark. Og is believe to have possibly been one of the last Rephaim which was a race of giants. Og was believed to have been nearly 13 feet tall. Now, we've got a giant named Og who lived in Bashan, and the Arabic word for Orion means the giant.

Orion often symbolizes justice, so does Og. Both men were considered to be giants.

So what does this mean? Here we see God says not to worship the stars.

14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

God wants you to be good.

15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

Anytime a namby pamby "christian" tells you that we aren't supposed to hate, point them to Amos 5:15.

18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.

When God comes back, it's not going to be a good time. War isn't fun. War is hell. When God comes for his day of Judgement, there will be hell for a whole lot of people.

20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?

Rapture Ready is a non-christian uneducated farce of a site. Those people directly defy the LORD by being happy with his coming judgment.

26 But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.

And now, everything is tied back together. Remember before that I said that El was another name for Moloch? Chiun is Saturn. Saturn is Satan. So, here we see God commanding people to not worship Saturn.

27 Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.

Were the people aware of Babylon at this point?

Amos 6

2 Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

Remember, Goliath was from Gath. Goliath was a giant...

God is mad at the people. Everything they do pisses him off.

8 The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

He's really angry.

14 But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

They are going to totally ruin the country.

So what have we learned today?

1. God is mad at the people for worshiping at Bethel.

2. God is mad at the people for worshiping Orion.

3. God is mad at the people for worshiping Saturn.
