Why Would An All Loving God Do This? -
03-27-2010, 09:14 PM
3 years ago my grandfather, who was an EXTREMELY devoted Baptist, was diagnosed with with lung cancer. It killed him in 4 months.for 4 long, excruciating, painful months he was violently ill and bed ridden. in a sense i was glad it killed him because he was just that terribly miserable. now why would an all loving God take him away in such a horrible slow excruciating way? why would he do that to one of his most devoted followers? Why not kill him doing something he liked, like riding his bike or something? something fast and quick. im sorry but whatever role God played in my grandfathers death, he was just plain out cruel.

Sorry to hear that your dad has become a Dead Kennedy friend.
We don't rejoice in those things.
However, don't forget that God is not just about love.
Isaiah 45:7
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
So, no, He is not "all loving". I don't know where you got that from. Not from the Bible (KJV 1611 only) though.
Psalm 81:10:
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt:
open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

God is never cruel. He may be hard or apparently unjust, but not cruel. Without a doubt there was something that had upset God in your grandfather's past. He may have worked on Sundays, he may have taken the Lord's name in vain, he may have transgressed any one of the 10 Commandments.
Anyway, who are you to question God? His ways may not be ours. His ways may be incomprehensible to mere mortals.
I think that the probability is that your grandfather was not as devoted as he could have been or perhaps he belonged to some fluffy-bunny Baptist sect that picked and chose only the parts of the Bible they liked. (e.g. they may have had women pastors, or not damned homosexuals, or perhaps thought that science had some answers... could be anything really.
Your grandfather could have been a secret atheist... who's to say? I tell you Who - God.

Amen Brother. Perhaps his great great great grandfather was a bastard. Tough, but fair.
PS: I wonder what the people of Biafra have done to Him. Must have been pretty awful really.

God knows a lot more about what your grandfather did and thought than you do. Be glad that God gave him a chance to repent his sins to God so that he may perhaps enter Heaven.
On what do you base that God is all-loving by the way? This is not what is written in the Bible.

Be wary of false Kumbaya Christians who use a highlighter and scissors to read the Bible. God wants us to read the lines, not between the lines. False Christians will go to Hell:
Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Well maybe it's because I'm a woman, but I'm seeing another side to this.
Maybe God gave your grandfather 4 months warning of his impending death so that he could instill the love of Jesus into you. To give you time to say your goodbyes and get things into order.
My mother died very suddenly, I can tell you that when there is absolutely no warning it does leave a mess for the family to clean up. Inheritances were not dealt with properly, family in shock, even the funeral itself turned into a fiasco. So perhaps God was giving your Grandfather 4 months to straighten out his affairs.

Why did you want your Grandfather to die while riding his Bike? Did you have some kind of Insurance Policy on him so you could collect? Your Grandfather is with God now who loves him more then some money grabbing Grandkids.

Because he loved riding his bike! if it was a car accident or something it would be quick and over and he wouldn't have to slowly have us see him degrade into his sickly condition, which is what i think really hurt him most.
if he died in a bike crash he would've died doing something enjoying, and we wouldnt have to spend 4 months watching him die.
and for the record we didnt have an insurance policy, i may not be 100% godly but that dosent make me evil and greedy.

I highly doubt my grandfather would be remotely interested in the Dead Kennedys, He would probably get along with you guys pretty well.

Is there anything you'd like us to tell him on your behalf once we meet him in Heaven?

As always, Scripture provides the answer:
Hebr. 12:6-11: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected [us], and we gave [them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened [us] after their own pleasure; but he for [our] profit, that [we] might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
