Friends, I ask you to spare a moment during your prayer ritual for Utah congressman John Curtis. During a debate for reelection he opined on the travails of power, a heavy burden carried predominantly by middle aged white men, like him (and us).

“I wish, as a man, I didn’t have to make this decision,” John Curtis said, referring to how the state legislatures which are now empowered to decide the legality of abortion are dominated by men. “I wish women could make this decision.”

If only women could make decisions for themselves it would relieve middle aged white men from forcing all these hard outcomes on them. Personally I agree with Justice Alito that the abortion issue is a no-brainer ("egregiously wrong") so perhaps some women might possibly be able to figure that out for themselves. I doubt it though, but I wish they would try. That's where Mr. Curtis and I agree, and what disappoints me most I think about women.
