Default Day 206. Isaiah 16-18 - 10-01-2009, 05:37 PM

Isaiah 16-18

Isaiah 16

1 Send ye the lamb to the ruler of the land from Sela to the wilderness, unto the mount of the daughter of Zion.

If you remember back to the time of King Ahab (1 Kings 16 to 2 Kings 1:1) the Moabites paid tribute (taxes) to Israel. Moab was conquered by Omri, Ahab's father. Here, we see that Isaiah is saying that if Moab once again becomes subservient to Israel (Judah) that they might be able to be protected and not wiped out.

2 For it shall be, that, as a wandering bird cast out of the nest, so the daughters of Moab shall be at the fords of Arnon.

Instead, they will be disbanded. Then Israel is asked to take the outcasts from Moab.

4 Let mine outcasts dwell with thee, Moab; be thou a covert to them from the face of the spoiler: for the extortioner is at an end, the spoiler ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land.

Now, Moab is asked to take the leftover from Israel.

7 Therefore shall Moab howl for Moab, every one shall howl: for the foundations of Kirhareseth shall ye mourn; surely they are stricken.

Once again, we are back to the destruction of Moab.

11 Wherefore my bowels shall sound like an harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kirharesh.

This is the opposite of saying "I don't give a crap". When your bowels sound (fart) then you obviously do "give a crap".

14 But now the LORD hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of an hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be contemned, with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.

Moab will be destroyed, there will only be a couple of people left. So, why can't these few return to their former glory? The country itself started from the inbred child of Lot and his daughter, why can't a remnant that is more than 1 rebuild?

Isaiah 17

1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

Damascus is the capital of Syria. It is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. According to Wiki, it was first inhabited in 10,000 BC, which is interesting since the world was started 6000 years later. The city was destroyed in 732 BC by Tiglath-Pileser III. Cyrus captured it in 538. Isaiah prophecies would most likely deal with the Cyrus (Persian) invasion. He was a child when Tiglath-Pileser III invaded, and we've already seen how little the jews knew about their surroundings, so they probably didn't know that Damascus had been razed.

3 The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

The remnant of Syria was slightly more effective at rebuilding than the remnant of Moab. Damascus now has a population of roughly 1.7 million people. That's about 1.7 million people more than the Moab population... in the world.

4 And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

Jacob reference, in other words, talking about the entirety of the northern and southern kingdoms. If Jacob is made thin, that means both countries will be ransacked.

7 At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

Some people will look to the right place for help. Others will die.

10 Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:
11 In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

Strange slips... a slip is a plant cutting. Remember, part of the process of nation removing at the time was to breed the cultures out of existence. Part of the Babylonian exile included a thinning of the bloodline. The adults taken away would be forced to marry other people, and their offspring would only be 1/2 jew. Do this enough times, and you are down to a person who has very little common ancestry with their great grandparents. The Babylonians took the Israelite, and turned them into mutts, as best they could. How can you best kill a civilization? Piffle it out of existence.

With the words "strange slips" Isaiah shows how the people will be mingled with the other nations. In verse 11, he says that even though those plants will grow, they won't produce fruit. Those people will be a lost generation.

12 Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

God will punish the people who do this to both the Syrians and the people of Israel.

14 And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

Friends, it's not always the righteous who are used as instruments of the LORD. He often uses people and things that you don't expect. For example, your child gets killed by a murderer. The murderer isn't a christian. God is punishing you for your sins, he's just using the murderer to execute his wrath. Eventually, God will punish the murderer too. It's all a part of God's great plan. You get what you deserve.

LORD, don't give me what I deserve, give me something I need.

Isaiah 18

1 Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:

The Nile river has a whole lot of bugs, enough that they can darken the sun. The area beyond Ethiopia would be the Sudan and Somalia.

2 That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!

After Ahaz, Hezekiah became the king. He later entered into an alliance with Egypt to rebel against Sennacherib of Assyria. At that point, Sennacherib attacked.

4 For so the LORD said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

God says that he will reject this alliance with the Ethiopians. If they do make a pact, he's just going to go sit up in heaven and watch the destruction.

5 For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.

God doesn't need the help of Egypt to get rid of Assyria, he can kill them all himself.

7 In that time shall the present be brought unto the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the mount Zion.

After then, the Ethiopian will go and worship the LORD in Jerusalem. Ethiopia/Egypt may have brought gifts to the God of their ally, but they probably didn't fully worship him, they probably kept their old Egyptian sun gods.

So what have we learned today?

1. Isaiah prophesies the destruction of Moab.

2. Isaiah prophesies the destruction of Syria.

3. Isaiah prophesies the destruction of Persia.

Isaiah is very much like Nostradamus. He looks into the future, and says that civilizations are going to fall apart. It's not that tough to do. I foresee that the Iranian (Persian) ruling Muslim body will lose control of their people, as a secular revolution takes place.

Oh, and when all the glaciers go away, water will be more valuable than oil. The country that can desalinate the water will be the country that rules the world. Everyone will pay tribute to get the fresh water. Billions of poor people will die from thirst and hunger as no plants will grow.

Somehow, the Jewish faith will survive it all.

Default Re: Day 206. Isaiah 16-18 - 10-25-2009, 07:46 PM

I thought it was funny that the fluffy bunny false christain NIV reads this particular verse as.

Isaiah 16:11
My heart laments for Moab like a harp, my inmost being for Kir Hareseth.

Yet another case of the KJV getting it right.

Christians are superior because we possess an understanding that unbelievers lack. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Most unbelievers do not even believe in Satan and cannot understand his tactics.
