Ask a non believer ANYTHING! -
02-16-2011, 01:27 AM
Hello True Christians!
Let me start by saying that i'm not here with the intention of insulting or offending any of the users of this site. I'm hear to learn about your beliefs and ideas and share mine with anyone who is curious about them. I hope we can have a civil discussion and learn something from one another without upsetting each other or stooping to the level of insulting each other.
A little background on my beliefs.
I was raised Catholic and attended a Catholic school. I am vaguely familiar with the bible and Christian beliefs but it has been quite a while. I no longer believe in God but I do not consider myself to be an Atheist. I'm more accurately described as an Agnostic. I believe that the existence (or non-existence) of God or any gods is unknowable. Do I believe there is a God? No, I do not. Do I believe it is possible that there is a deity out there? Yes, I acknowledge the possibility, although if there is a God I personally doubt that it is the one you all worship.
These are my personal beliefs and I do not speak for anyone else.
With that said, let's start the discussion. Feel free to ask me anything.
Thanks!!

Okay, question 1: If you're here to learn about us and our beliefs, why do you want us to ask the questions? Shouldn't it be you asking the questions?

Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

ok here is a question
i saw in the Creation Science sub-forum that there is a thread about the Earth being flat
is this a commonly held belief amongst this community?
this is something new to me. i have met many Christians and as far as i know, not many of them believe that the earth is flat. in fact i was taught that the earth was round in my classes at Catholic school. Is this something that Christians argue about amongst themselves? does the bible make any reference to the shape of the earth? i'm not familiar with any passages.

I have a question: How can you be an agnostic if there is mountains of evidence for God's existence?
How else could the earth and life have got here? It didn't just pop into existence. It was planned. If you found a watch on the ground, it would be crazy to think that it formed itself. A rational person knows there is a watchmaker, and such is the same as with the world.
Also, if you do read the Bible, you will find that it is inerrant which would be impossible if just written by men. And what about all the prophecies that have come true? Jesus Christ fed 5,000 people with a couple loaves and some fishes -- a miracle -- which was witnessed by thousands. How can you deny all that evidence?

Why do you hate God? He loves you and wants to keep you from hell.
Turn your mind over to the LORD of all creation.
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:2

i suppose we have different definitions of "evidence." I personally see no evidence that there is an almighty being.

this is a good question! and my answer is "I don't know!"
the origin of the universe, the earth, and life is a mystery
it's something i've studied and tried to learn about and this question is actually part of what led me away from my faith. at some point the answer "God did it" just wasn't enough for me so i starting looking into alternate explanations. there are a lot of smart scientists trying to answer these questions everyday.

how many written accounts of this miracle are there? i think only 1 (or maybe 3-4?) in my opinion that isn't the mountain of evidence that it's made out to be.

Some of the relevant verses are cited in the very first post of the thread you mentioned above. http://www.landoverbaptist.net/showthread.php?t=40617
It would not have taken much finding. I suggest you read this, and not expect people to waste their time answering questions that have been answered many times over.

i do not "hate" God. i just don't believe he is there.
if God loves me then why would he let me suffer eternal damnation and suffering? i know i certainly couldn't let someone i loved or my own child suffer even a moment of suffering if i could help it.

May I ask the question as to if your father ever abused you.
It would appear that this hatred is carrying over to our holy father Jesus Christ.
I really do pity you.

you can ask me ANYTHING!
the answer is absolutely not
my father is the single smartest person i have ever met. he is also the kindest and hardest working person i know. i aspire to be even half the man he is. he is my best friend and has never led me wrong. i lean on him for advice and support often and i consider myself very lucky to have him in my life. i hope to be as good a father to my own children.

He can't be that smart. After all, he is doomed to spend eternity in hell.

Then you will perish because God doesn't have time to fool with unbelievers.
2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 "In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:"
"Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;"
Will you come to Jesus and let him come in you? Or continue to mock him?
It is your everlasting soul on the line.
In Christ
Matthew 19:14 "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

this sounds like something someone would say to try to scare me into believing in God. i don't believe that I have an "everlasting soul" so this doesn't concern me. if i do? then i'll let God be the judge, not you.

Then I am sorry you wasted my time.
2 Corinthians 6:14 "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"
May you find Christ
Matthew 19:14 "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."
