Priest accused of having 'erotic dungeon' surrenders

A Polish-born priest accused of sexually abusing minors in his parochial residence in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has turned himself in, state officials said Saturday. State security officials said Marcin Michal Strachanowski, 44, surrendered to authorities Friday night in the village of Realengo.
State Civil Police had issued a "preventative arrest" warrant against Strachanowski on Thursday. The priest is accused of handcuffing a minor in 2006 and forcing him to perform sexual acts at his home in the Divino Espirito Santo church in Rio de Janeiro's west zone, the officials said.
In a press statement, the Rio de Janeiro archdiocese said it has suspended Strachanowski from his duties and that in addition to the criminal inquiry, the church has called on a ecclesiastic tribunal to oversee a canonical trial.
"The archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro laments the incident, especially for the people involved, especially for the possible victims, and clarifies that the mentioned clergyman already finds himself suspended of his parochial functions," the statement said.
According to Brazil's Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper, the priest could not be found Friday morning.
The newspaper reported that a 16-year old alleged victim told investigators that after being frequently raped by the priest, he was forced to remain silent and was threatened regularly.
Citing court statements, the newspaper reported that criminal Judge Alexandre Abrahao Dias Teixeira said police investigations revealed the profile of a man with a "compulsive attraction to having sex with adolescents" and that he had allegedly turned his parish residence into an "erotic dungeon" where he forced boys to have sex with him.

I think the significant thing about this story is the priest actually did this at his home and not within the church confines itself. They may actually be able to prosecute him as he should not be able to invoke sanctuary in this case.

I find the fact that he actually turned himself in and didn't just disappear into the Catholic web absolutely amazing.

Of course it's bad that this sort of thing has been happening in the Catholic Church and that the Vatican has been slow to deal with it properly.

What's really strange when you consider it, is that the Catholic Church has been consistantly attracting these sorts of people to their seminaries and "ministry" for some time now.

Did the church take out some sort of ad in the Worldwide Perverts Newsletter or somehing? Aren't there any well-adjusted heterosexual men out there who want to abstain from sex for the rest of their lives?

It seems that the church as been scraping the bottom of the barrel for a long time, now. In my day, Catholic priests could be counted on to express disdain for new minorities entering the country, drinking a little too heavily at weddings and lecturing poor families on the evils of limiting the number of children they could underfeed.

They really have lost sight of their basic values.

Oh please, this is just another sad example of a statistical anomaly being used to attack the greatest religious organisation of all time.

Besides the fact that this man of God has yet to be brought to court, has anyone seriously looked into these allegations in regards to their source? This young man claims he was handcuffed numerous times and forced to perform indecencies for years on end yet he could not resist returning to visit his so-called attacker?

How often can a sixteen year old boy be tricked into the same pair of handcuffs in a sex romp room before he decides to seek financial redress for some perceived sexual slight... and there always is a demand for cash isn't there.

This entire story is fishier than Courtney Love's bicycle seat and perhaps all of you folks here owe this Priest and the entire Catholic Church an apology for your unwarranted and uncharitable attacks... to say nothing of your unChristian posturing.

We Catholics have seen everything from 'repressed memory syndrome' fantasies to outright lies by a number of purported 'victims' whose real purpose is to weaken the bastion of goodness that is the Church by means of both slander and financial threat.

Yes, in the long and proud history of The Holy Roman Church there have been one or two bad apples but to suggest a pattern of problematic behaviour by Priests is beyond the pale and rest assured we are on top of any situation that has even a whiff of child sex abuse... trust me when I tell you it is our duty to get to the bottom of stories like this and most of them end in a happy finish when left to the hands of a knowing, loving and forgiving Priesthood.

I am saying that as is often the case these stories of forced oral copulation are blown out of proportion. For all we really know some local pervert was dressing like a Priest to hide his intentions... look at any of your countless Gay Pride parades and note how many of your fellow Americans indulge in costume mocking of the Church and her clergy.

The Internet is filled with outrageous lies that usually prove to be propaganda of the lowest ilk and I have little doubt this is just another urban myth being created by the minions of Satan who are hell bent on destroying the very Church Jesus himself built on the rock of Saint Peter.
