We hear about disbelievers claiming there was no Jesus. They suggest that the emergence of an Israelite nation resulted from a quasi-nomadic hotchpotch of loosely related tribes (tribes is probably a bit strong, but anyway..) settling in the central——or western, depending on where you'd claimed their nomadic lives to have been——highlands of Canaan. These were relatively unpopulated regions so no conquest was involved. Judges, an Old Testament book, contains our earliest accounts of skirmishes resulting from population growth. Perhaps broadly accurate, these wretches announce, but not in any historical sense as we'd understand history.
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies etc."
Oh yes, they will tell you, gesticulating wildly, Nothing in the Hexateuch is true (Ha Ha Ha what a load of moro
ns) you don't believe that old rubbish do you? Abraham, Adam, Benjamin, Esau, Eve, Ham, Jacob, Japheth, Joshua, Moses, Noah, Shem, The Exodus and so on through the alphabet up to and including King David (a "house of David" does not require there ever to have been a King David) all real characters invented to account for the ex-nomads' existence where they were among comparative strangers whether or not they recalled their lives in tents after a few centuries. Then thousands of years later, after all these Adams and Noahs and Moseses, tales of whom had been milked for a do-nothing lifestyle by the priestly caste, none of whom were ever real along comes a Jesus and we're supposed to believe, after all that, after all the deception and murder and extortion, this one single character is real?
Of course we've heard that. God listens and anticipated objections of that sort when He included rather full and complete evidence concerning Jesus. It's a pleasure for me to include it here.
Galatians 3:28-29; 4:1-4 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; but is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: but when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law
Jesus was not invented like a will o’ the wisp to further the schemes of a failed Theocracy under Greek and Roman domination. He was a legal entity; being born is essential for that in a way that new-age crystal goblins never have been. God is explicit here for a reason: Jesus is born; His mother is a woman; He has standing under the law; He is able to free us from child-like ignorance because He was a child Himself; explicit because know-nothings turn up making absurd claims they've clearly never investigated and God wants everyone to understand. Ruined minds however have lost the ability as well as the curiosity to comprehend either reality or their own deficiencies.
"Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."
